Legendary actor, screenwriter, director, and producer Sylvester “Sly” Stallone was born on this day, July 6, in 1946. Rising from a struggling actor as an extra or in uncredited cameos in films like Klute (1971), Bananas (1971) and What’s Up, Doc? (1972), to breakout roles in The Lords of Flatbush (1974) and Death Race 2000 (1975) and finally to Rocky (1976), where he wrote the screenplay and starred as down on his luck boxer, Rocky Balboa, launching him into global superstardom and winning Best Picture. The film also earned Stallone Academy Award nominations for acting and writing. He then starred in and co-wrote the screenplay to F.I.S.T.
