Half a marathon log 7.10.26
I had the privilege of caring for a geriatric patient who completely changed the way I see life.

Before his diagnosis, he was a pediatric surgeon, a triathlete, a marathoner, and an Ironman. He spent his life helping others while constantly pushing the limits of what his body could do.

As his disease progressed, I watched him slowly lose the ability to do the things he loved. The adventures that once filled his life became simple trips to the grocery store with his wife. ->

I witnessed the frustration and heartbreak that his illness brought into their everyday lives. They would fight in the grocery store because he only wanted sweets and ice cream, while she desperately wanted him to eat real meals. You could see how much it distressed her. She wasn’t angry because of the food she was watching the love of her life slowly slip away, and she wanted to do anything she could to keep him healthy.

One day, she looked at me and said something that has never left me.

“I used to hate that he only wanted sweets and ice cream. But he’s dying anyway… I’d rather he spend the rest of his days happy, eating the things he enjoys.” ->

In that moment, I realized it was never about the food. It was about grief. About learning to let go of the hope that things could go back to the way they were, and choosing instead to cherish the time they had left together.

One day I asked him what he wished he could do one more time.

He said, “Walk freely.” ->

We spend so much time chasing bigger goals that we forget the greatest privilege is simply having a body that lets us move. Walking. Running. Climbing stairs. Hugging the people we love. None of it is guaranteed.

So today, after only three hours of sleep and between working two jobs, I spontaneously ran a half marathon.

Not because I had to.

Because I could. ->

Every step reminded me that movement is a privilege that can be taken away in an instant. We spend so much of our lives wishing our bodies looked different, when someone else would give anything just to walk across a room without thinking.

This one is for you. ->

Thank you for reminding me that health is temporary, movement is a gift, and t by @ariibaraa

Food = fuel ⛽️

If you want to look like an athlete you need to train and eat like one

The first clip was me deep in a calorie deficit for way too long. I thought smaller meant better, but I was under-fueling my body, losing muscle, and sacrificing my glutes in the process. I looked “skinny,” but I felt exhausted, flat, and weak.

Now I’m eating more at maintenance, training harder, recovering properly, and my body completely changed. My glutes grew back, my waist looks smaller, and I feel stronger, healthier, and more confident.

Eating more didn’t ruin my progress but it improved it. Your body needs fuel to build shape, muscle, energy, and balance. Sometimes the glow up starts when you stop starving yourself.
