💫 The Cosmere Reading Order 💫

15 months of reading and I’ve finally finished every book and novella in Brandon Sanderson’s #cosmere. This was a labor of love as Sanderson quickly shot to my favorites authors list for his world building, character work, and unique magic systems

I’ve found unique things about every story that have felt so special, and my average rating across 30 stories was 4.25, which includes 6 5 star books and one 5 star novella. Basically, I love this universe and I cannot wait for everyone to begin their journey

The best part is that while this is my recommended reading order (and not even the exact order I followed 😂) there is so much nuance as to when you can read these books!! Don’t feel like you HAVE to follow one order or another, I just figured if you’re at a loss, I can help!!

Regardless of whose reading order to follow, I do have 3 true rules you should try to follow

1: just try to read everything outside of the secret projects BEFORE reading The Stormlight Archives. Stormlight has the most Easter eggs and while it won’t hinder your experience if you don’t pick up on them, I found it so enjoyable when I did

2: read Elantris earlier in your journey. This is one of the earliest books written and I just found the world building more dense than his others, so if you read it early you won’t have as much to compare it too 🤷🏻‍♀️

3: just have fun and take your time. The Cosmere is soooo fun. There are characters that show up throughout all the stories, there are Easter eggs and cross overs, there’s SO MUCH lore, it’s an incredible community to be part of. But don’t rush it. pace yourself, have fun, and enjoy the ride

Journey before Destination friends!

Let me know if you’ve read any or decide to take it in. I LOVE chatting Cosmere and freaking out about things and I promise I stay spoiler free!!!

This is just the beginning of my #sandersonsunday series so stay tuned 😉 by @arisbookworld

📚 Weekly Reading Update! 📚

Since last week, I’ve finished 3 books, DNF’d 1, and am reading 2! Check in later today on stories for more detailed thoughts on each!!

Books Finished:
We Solve Murders - super cute and cozy
Love you to Death - weird I’ve read two Grim Reaper romances in the last two months 😂 really enjoyed this one!
What Feeds Below - I’m so pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this one!!!

DNF:
Count My Lies - DNF at 13%. I just wasn’t feeling motivated to listen to it, may try again later

Currently Reading:
Audio: The Butcher Game (50%) - I’m a little bored. I think I just don’t love when the killer/villain has a POV
Physical: Such Sharp Teeth (75 pages) - I’m sat. I love a werewolf book and this one is pretty unique. Kinda reminds me of the show Bitten if it started when she got turned instead of years later

📚 10 Before the End 📚

Here we are again. Another 10 before the end that I probably won’t complete 😂😂 however this year I really plan to prioritize these and focus on working through this stack in November and December - as all of them are books that I’ve been so excited to read and haven’t gotten to yet

Lovelight Farms was admittedly in my 2025 10 before the end so if I don’t get it to it now it may be time to give up on that series 😂😂😂

And for both August and September (and now October) I’ve being saying I’ll read The Poet Empress and just haven’t. TBH this is because the hype around this book makes me so nervous. What if I don’t like it as much as everyone else?!??

The rest I just know I’m going to like and just haven’t gotten to yet so now is my time to shine!!!

What are some books you’re prioritizing for the last 2.5 months of the year?! taken in BOOKSTA by @arisbookworld

📚 Book Shelf Tour 📚

Personally I love to see how everyone organizes their bookshelves because I think it’s just so personal so here is mine!

For the most part they are by genre, and then within each genre I have them alphabetical by authors last name and within that it usually either by order I read them in or publication date (I’m less consistent here)

And then everything I haven’t read yet lives on its own shelf just waiting to go home

How do you organize your bookshelves shelves!!?? taken in BOOKSTA by @arisbookworld

🎧 Audio Book Mini Reviews 🎧

I recently got in an “argument” with a co worker about if audio books count as reading and it is always a hill I will die on. If we can talk about the same book and experience the same book, why does it matter how we consume it!?!

I think the only time I’ll tell you you didn’t actually read a book is if you told me you spark notes’d it 😂

Anyway - here are more audio book mini reviews!!!

• The Dark Lords Guide to Dating •

This book was HILARIOUS. I laughed out loud, a lot. And I loved our FMC. She really said, “oh. You’re going to kidnap me? Bet. How can I make this work for me??” And I loved that! There is also a dragon side kick in here who is my fav

My one complaint is I do not think this book needed to be this long. It felt WAY too long for the plot that was given, and we spent a lot of time on their physical relationship and not as much on their emotional one

But truly just a hilarious great time

• The Cloisters •

So this book I assumed too much going in. I thought there was magic/magical realism and a darker mystery. But rather it was a more atmospheric dark academia kind of read. Because of that, I never FULLY connected to the story and the characters

However - the entire last third I could not stop listening. There is a twist in here that had my jaw on the floor. So I think if you went into this with the correct expectations - I would definitely recommend

• Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt •

Again - I had the wrong expectations for this book. I need to stop thinking I know what a book is going to be 😂 I thought this was going to have a similar vibe as Masters of Death by Olivie Blake but rather it was much more of a lit fic read about the personification of death

I did find the themes of grief quite beautiful, but I kept waiting for more, which took me out of the story quite a bit

• Songs of the Dead •

This is a very fun first fantasy book that has a world that almost feels like the matrix, but instead of taking a pill to wake up, you die and are sort of reborn being able to see “the strata”. There is also an element of music magic in here I really liked. I think it’s a great start to a ser taken in BOOKSTA by @arisbookworld

🌟 Quarter 3 5 Star Reads 🌟

I have been slightly more stingy with my 5 Star ratings this year, really only trying to give books that consumed me in some form the full 5 stars (this does mean I have given away 4.5 stars like candy 😂) so of the over 40 books I read in Q3 I have 7 5 stars! (3 in September!!!!!)

Books Mentioned:

Shadow and Son by @gretchenwritesbooks
The Exquisute Tourment of loving your enemy by @brigitteknightley
This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by @ilona_andrews
Immortal Rose by @alexbracken
This Book Made Me Think of You by @libbypagewrites
Kingdom of Gold by @sachakrabooks
Grim Tidings by @authorbkborison

If you haven’t read these books/series yet this is your PSA to do so. Please. I beg of you. Do it. taken in BOOKSTA by @arisbookworld

🪽 Grim Tidings 🪽

Something that is always going to hit for me is a paranormal romance. Add in BK Borison and it’s a perfect recipe for a 5 star read.

I loved this book so much. Darcy is a Grim Reaper and is sent to a small town for her next soul to reap. But something has been off with her lately and she’s lonely. So while she’s there figuring out who’s next she thinks, what if I live a little?!?! And what if the handsome bartender is flirting with me 👀

However, said handsome bartender is a guardian angel sent to watch over the people of this town, and he refuses to loose a soul to Darcy. What starts as flirting ends in hostility as he refuses to trust a reaper

But as the days past and they spend more time together maybe they aren’t what they thought!!

This book is sweet and pure. It’s about two people over looking their assumptions and seeing the person for who they are and slowly falling for eachother. I may have cried a couple times because Darcy just wants to live and I just wanted to hug her. But I also laughed a lot and fell completely in love with their love

This book was wonderful and I think absolutely perfect for the ‘Ber months. If you’re looking for a little bit of magic, a little bit of romance, and maybe a cameo from Good Spirits, this is absolutely the book for you!!

📚 October TBR 📚

It’s officially spooky szn !!! I have been ITCHING for some fall weather and while it’s still hitting high 70s and 80s here I think it’s coming! Hopefully by mid month we’ll really be feeling it!!

This month, my challenge was that my fiance got to pick a genre of books I would prioritize and he picked Mysteries and Thrillers which are perfect for October!! I’m honestly really excited about this and plan to pepper in a few other seasonal reads (some paranormal romance or some vampires maybe?!?!)

📚 September Wrap up & Outtakes 📚

Somehow I managed to read 16 books in the month of September, which included finishing/catching up on 4 series!!

I did add quite a few books to my physical TBR this month (birthday month always gets out of hand, what can I say) but I also did a lot of damage!

My favorite book this month was The Empire of Gold. I think it was just the perfect conclusion to such an amazing series. And honorable mentions are Grim Tidings and This Book Made me Think of You. Both I have 5 stars because I was just so immersed in the stories and they made me emotional

Overall a really good reading month for me and I’m excited to see what October has in store!

📚 Author First vs Favorite pt 2 📚

It’s been a minute since I’ve done this so here are 5 authors that I simply adore with the first book I read and my favorite (along with all the others!)

Every single one is an auto read author for me, so let me know who some of your auto read/auto buy authors are!

Ps - if you already saw this post no you didn’t. I had to fight with insta and delete and repost it 😅😂

@scorelucy is one of my favorite romance authors out there. I think I read my first book by her back in 2016? My favorite series by her (and maybe one of my favorite romance series ever) is the Riley Thorne series and I’m SO excited for the next installment

Bookstagram introduced me to @heyashposton and I still think about The Dead Romantics every day. I honestly plan to re read it this year! I still haven’t gotten to The Someday Garden yet but hope to soon and then I will be diving head first into her backlog while I wait for her romantasy release next year!

The Raiders of the Arcana Series changed my life. Okay that may be dramatic but it showed me I can love a historical fantasy and at this point @jbensonink can do no wrong in my eyes

@marianazapata is the queen of Romance. I’ve read The Wall of Winnipeg and me 3 times, Dear Aaron twice and Wait for it twice. These characters live in my head and I know I have more or her books I need to read but I also keep putting them off because I don’t want to ever be caught up

@kfbreene showed me that Urban Fantasy is amazing. The Vampire Days Demon Nights is a series that lives in my head rent free. Regan is one of my all time favorite FMCs. But also her books always hit. No notes. Banger after Banger. Another author I have more to read from but also I hope I never catch up taken in BOOKSTA by @arisbookworld
