🇬🇧 Narcissus time 🪞

I'm Bertrand, I grew up in Nîmes in the south of France.

I founded Aristide there in 2010.

I'm the father of two little girls.

I stumbled into glove-making by pure chance... Or rather, by chance of an encounter.

Beyond the medium itself, I discovered a craft and fell in love with it. I love craftsmanship, even the dustiest, materials, natural or not, contemporary art, mannerism, utopian architecture, but more than that, what truly interests me are the in-between spaces, the interstices: the result of the exchange between the conventional and the disruptive.

Je suis Bertrand, j'ai grandi à Nîmes dans le sud de la France.

J'y ai fondé Aristide en 2010.

Je suis papa de deux petites filles.

Je suis tombé dans la ganterie par pur hasard...Ou plutôt au hasard d'une rencontre.

Au-delà du médium en lui-même, j'ai découvert un savoir-faire et en suis tombé amoureux. J'aime les savoir faire, même les plus poussiéreux, les matières, naturelles ou non, l'art contemporain, le maniérisme, l'architecture utopique, mais plus que ça, ce qui m'intéresse vraiment ce sont les entre deux, les interstices: Le résultat des échanges entre le conventionnel et le disruptif. by @aristide_collection

When I fall in love...

I discovered @mark__whalen 's work through
his book Human Development, published in 2012.

The collected pieces initially fascinated me
with an architectural aesthetic that reminded me
of Superstudio.

But beyond the simple visual resemblance,
the core subject matter which tackled themes
of a humanity unleashed thanks to, or because of,
knowledge also echoed the Italian collective.

For a few years now, Mark Whalen had shifted
to 3D with sculptures of impressive finesse, delicacy and falsely humorous.

Since then, I've always followed his work without
ever being able to see it in person, until recently...

I was finally able to experience his creations
in person at the @ruttkowski68 gallery in Paris.

Set within a stripped-back,
unpretentious scenography stand
his post 2025 L.A fire sculptures.

Mark Whalen has completely rethought
his selection of materials,
using exclusively non-flammable elements.

This choice makes his work even more powerful:
a mix of textures, raw strength, unexpected reflections, unexpected thoughts...

You can measure the impact of the tragedy and,
above all, the remarkable way he made it his own.
