26th August - 58 times around the sun.

My step children took me for breakfast before I left for work that takes me away for a week. They still always make hand drawn cards which I love ❤️

My lovely work colleague and I were then on the road to see our client for a site visit. Greeted with cake and macaroons and a gift of herbal teas….the meeting got off on the right track!

Then an onward drive to @bethchattogardens for a pre symposium supper for speakers and panel hosts to get us together ahead of 3 days of talks.

A packed work day made special 🎈

Thank you to all my friends and family for my birthday wishes. ❤️❤️❤️ by @aritanderson

This week the wonderful Kate Griffiths is leaving @hilliertrees to go onto pastures new. She was the account manager working with designers and private projects. (We’re giggling at some point in this clip!)
Kate worked with me on the RHS Peat Free Garden July 2024. By the November of that year we were out in the field selecting and having trees lifted in 2025 for the @parkinsonsuk @the_rhs show garden in 2026. Always smiling, nothing too much trouble and fantastic knowledge of trees 🌳

Hillier is a UK field grown, peat tree nursery supplying trees all over the British Isles. Their reputation is exemplary and still run by the Hillier family. It was a wonderful when the King came on the garden and took a particular interest in the Magnolia kobus Hiller supplied. And also Robert & George Hillier ex and new chairman’s of the company who were thrilled to see their work on main avenue. They have been supplying the RHS Chelsea Flower show for many years.

They were key sponsors helping us with trees, hedges, perennials and transport to the show and for the relocation.

Thanks again @jameshilliertrees and to all the team. I look forward to working with you on future projects!! 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳

Do you remember where you were for the 1999 eclipse?

 I worked for the retailer Warehouse at the Head Office on City Road in London. I remember leaving work to race across to Primrose Hill to get a vantage point and be part of a collective to experience the eclipse. It wasn’t sunny as the total eclipse occurred, cloud cover appeared. More than anything though it was the shift of light, the silence of birds and the quietening of the crowd as mid morning turned to dusk that I remember.

Today I wanted to ensure that Harvey my step son had a good memory to take him forward to the next similar eclipse in 2081!! We went to Primrose Hill with our pin dot card and perforated spoon ready to see the eclipse as we didn’t have the special glasses. By chance we had taken our little sketch books both agreeing on a tree to draw as we waited for the moment. Two lovely girls loaned us their glasses. We loved it!!

The crowed cheered at 7:12pm it was magical!! A Thai takeaway for supper to round it all off.

Happy eclipse Harv. Hope you remember this moment in 2081….and hoping you make it to the full eclipse in the UK in 2090 ❤️ by @aritanderson

Gods delays are not Gods denials. People that know me well, know it’s a favourite phrase of mine. In 2021 I rang Karn Sandilands, one of the directors of @millimetremakes to see if they could work with me on the @the_rhs Chelsea Feature Garden I designed. Unfortunately it was not to be, but we got on well and said to keep in touch for future projects.

The future revealed itself for the 2026 RHS @parkinsonsuk - A Garden for Parkinson Journey. They were the perfect makers to create, a ‘hand-rill’ to assist the Parkinson symptom of freezing, a shelter for those with insomnia to use at night, and seats for resting and enjoying the garden.
The team took up the challenge - determined to make sure it didn’t just look good, but that it felt good too, not just to touch, but in terms of evoking a feeling of support and nurture.

It must of worked, as The Queen, when touching the hand-rill said she could do with one!

Huge thanks to @accoyawood who so generously donated all of the wood. This sustainable timber has now ensured longevity for the pieces to live on at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Thank you all SO MUCH for the collaboration and hard work, these great features contributed to the garden courtesy of @project.giving.back by @aritanderson

I first met Richard Curle, MD of Landscape Associates in 2014. I was a volunteer at the time on a charity garden they were building at RHS Chelsea on main avenue and admired how hardworking, and caring his team was.

As a then student I could only dream of designing show gardens! After qualifying as a designer in 2016 I approached them to build my first show garden @the_rhs Hampton Court Flower Show which forged a great working relationship with the team.

How time flies!! 22 months ago I asked Landscape Associates if they would build the @parkinsonsuk - A Garden for Every Parkinson Journey, at RHS Chelsea 2026 sponsored by the generous @project.giving.back Luckily they said yes and the rest is history!!!

All of the teams that came to work on the site were made to feel welcome and at ease.

Thank you SO MUCH for working so hard and caring about this garden before, during and after RHS Chelsea……you are all legends!!!

@lalandscapes
@richcurle
@jamesburgess1986

@beaufortrampton were our “subbies” who came to help on the build, thanks for your dedication and hard work to!

Thank you so much to all the visitors that have shared their experience of Parkinson’s, or have offered kind words of support and understanding of our garden that’s on Main Avenue at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The biggest thanks has to go to my sister Julie, who allowed me to share her Parkinson’s story. It takes courage to put others before yourself, and her bravery allowed me to work with @parkinsonsuk

The second big thanks goes to @project.giving.back
This is a charity driven by people who understand the needs of others. With their financial support, but also their genuine care and humility they have given 63 causes over 5 years a chance to have a voice on the public stage of @the_rhs #chelseaflowershow
We are so proud to be one of the 63 exhibits.

Every single supplier and volunteer on this garden gave so much generosity of spirit it has been beyond overwhelming. I will give thanks to them all in quieter moment as I am still at the show presenting.

Big hugs to all in the Parkinson’s community and all supporters 💙💙💙 by @aritanderson

It is with a very heavy sad heart that I have to share with you that this morning Nigel Dunnett passed away.

His wife Marta has given me permission to put this on social media, as sadly she is unable to at this time.

I’m too upset to say more. But for those that knew him well, you know we have just lost one of our dear talented friends and our beautiful world of plants and design will miss him sorely.

Please do let people know as his reach is global.

Rest well dear friend ❤️🙏🏽❤️ by @aritanderson

Today I was invited as a guest onto Saturday Live for @bbcradio4

Fascinating to hear about the work that Lindsay McKenna is doing saving abandoned and mistreated non-native wild animals. You can visit some of these animals at the sanctuary she set up in Herefordshire @wildsideexoticrescue

Critically acclaimed @nomadic_revery John Robins shared his story of how comedy found him at a young age and so did alcohol. Still doing comedy but no longer drinking his memoir is soon out.

Thank you Adrian Chiles for effortlessly threading conversation between us all.

Ready to play back on @bbcsounds

Parkinson’s is neurodegenerative disorder that stops dopamine being produced in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that affects our mood, and movement.

Gardening is a great activity for all of us, but It has some great benefits if you have Parkinson’s.

It helps increase the “feel good factor” and helps you to keep moving, stretching and using your hands for dexterous tasks. All of this vital to help people stay active and live well with Parkinson’s.
