A superb new relick of Culture’s classic Why Am I A Rastaman, with Joe Ariwa & I Jah paying respectful tribute to one of Joseph Hill’s most powerful cultural anthems.

Rather than trying to reinvent the original, this version stays true to its spirit. The timeless lyrics remain as relevant as ever, while the updated production brings fresh weight and clarity without losing the roots foundation that made the tune so enduring. I Jah delivers the vocal with conviction, carrying the message naturally over a solid modern roots riddim.

On the flip, the dub version gives the rhythm plenty of room to breathe, with deep bass, tasteful effects and that unmistakable Ariwa touch, making it a perfect companion to the vocal cut.

Mad Professor & Yabby You – Jahovia

Jahovia brings together two true reggae heavyweights: Vivian Jackson, better known as Yabby You, on vocals, and Mad Professor at the controls. Originally recorded at Ariwa Studios in the mid-90s, this powerful collaboration finally lands on vinyl for the first time.

The vocal cut carries Yabby You’s unmistakable spiritual weight, with that fragile but commanding presence that made his music so unique. Over Mad Professor’s deep and spacious production, his voice cuts through with a mystical, devotional feeling, sitting perfectly inside the Ariwa sound.

Alongside the vocal, the A-side also includes a dub of the same rhythm, with the Professor opening up the track in proper Ariwa style. On the flip, as expected from a serious Ariwa 12”, we get an additional and completely different dub: Fake News Dub. Deep, heavy and beautifully atmospheric, it pushes the bass forward and takes the record into darker, more meditative territory.

Mad Professor & Pato Banton – Gwan (Go On)

A great unreleased 80s vocal cut from Pato Banton, with none other than Mad Professor at the controls. Gwan (Go On) has that lively jump-up feel, direct from the golden period when UK reggae and digital dancehall were finding their own sharp identity.

Pato Banton brings his unmistakable energy to the mic, riding the rhythm with a playful but confident delivery, full of movement and street-level charm. The tune has that raw, immediate touch that works so well on a sound: catchy, upbeat and ready to get a reaction from the dance.

With Mad Professor behind the desk, the production keeps things tight and effective, giving the vocal enough space while the riddim rolls with that unmistakable Ariwa-era flavour. A proper piece of UK reggae history, finally stepping out from the vaults.
