super fun process for a super fun poem! 🎨 mix of photography, postproduction editing, collage, & oil pastel! all connected together on a clear board with acrylic marker doodles!!🩷 i really wanted to do physical media for this poem because the poem allows such creativity, and i wanted to do a series of “self portraits” (i felt so weird having photos of me everywhere, but i think this poem allows for vulnerability🙈)! i tried to include every line from the poem to recreate the story of events, and i absolutely love the final connected look!💕💕 by @ariza.raw

Artivism Project: Modern Romance.

Artivism: (art + activism); using the power of art to urge social, political, or environmental change

Modern romance has shifted the expectations and genuine connections that society used to have because of the increasing culture of social media, dating apps, and hook-ups. When some people break up, they tend to jump right back into the dating-pool in order to fill their emptiness with the confidence and attention they once had, which often does not work because hurt people hurt people. Unresolved trauma with the lustful desire to feel wanted again is what diminishes the sweet, tender romance of accidentally meeting someone in the wild, turning it into a mess for everyone involved. When couples consume media regarding other people’s relationships and what it means to have the “ideal” relationship as seen through screens, unfair comparisons naturally seep into the subconscious mind and bitters their fine relationship because the portrayal of media is artificial, making people want more. Overthinking, over-comparing, over-expecting, over-staying a relationship: these defeat and overcomplicate romance, making people feel lonely and insecure—even in a relationship or something a little less. As the complexity of romance gets scarier and more stressful, people become afraid of commitment, but people are also afraid of loneliness. So, people have created solutions that blend both the same attention and intimacy that monogamous relationships would provide but with the freedom and lack of labels and rules of being single: friends with benefits, situationships, forced investments in someone who might not prioritize you or see you eye-to-eye. The endless cycle of infatuating the idea of a romantic relationship repeats.

I tried to incorporate internal thoughts of someone who experiences the bad side of modern romance in regular, day-to-day scenes of life because romance can become the center of someone’s life, which can mentally and emotionally destroy their lives. This is a wake up call for those suffering. Stand up for yourself. by @ariza.raw

On Feb. 5, 2026, guest speakers Governor Laura Kelly, Senator Cindy Holscher, Shannon VanLandingham, Brooks Robertson and others advocated for secure gun storage at the Kansas Statehouse to reduce gun-related deaths in Kansas. Kansas Moms Demand Action and Lawrence Free State’s Students Demand Action joined together to create a sea of red in the crowd.

According to WIBW-TV, the total gun-related deaths in Kansas is higher than the national average. Suicide from guns makes up more than two-thirds of those deaths in Kansas, with around 40 percent of all children’s gun deaths resulting from suicide. David Carttar from Moms Demand Action promotes “That gun-owning adults keep their firearms secure and out of the reach of anybody, like children who could do harm to themselves or others,” Carttar said.
