NOW WE ARE EARTH / An Orchestra is a grand future vision of choreographer and theater maker Nicole Beutler @nicolebeutlerprojects. Music, dance, choir, and audience unite in this eco-futuristic symphony, creating a sense of greater harmony. The third and final part of the trilogy RITUALS OF TRANSFORMATION (towards a new humanity) has premiered last week @operaballetvlaanderen. @roosjeklap @ark.amsterdam and I made the graphic campaign for it with illustrations by @studio_jannetemark. On view till the end of this year throughout NL🌕💛

'LAWKI—Sky Wells' is an interactive audiovisual installation combining human and artificial intelligence to speculate on knowledge production in the age of constant mediation. In 'LAWKI,' a network of unsupervised algorithms curates from thousands of online videos cued by human-scripted search phrases, creating a new ontology.

Our work took inspiration from Warburg/Bing's 'Mnemosyne Atlas,' a neighboring system of cataloging images, where each visual component conceptually refers to its adjacent partners (thus challenging the traditional classification methods, which organize material in arbitrary thematic sections). Weaving narratives via meta-data analysis and random walk through 768 semantic dimensions, 'LAWKI' reveals and deconstructs technological/database biases while proposing mythology and aesthetic catharsis to contest rigid knowledge regimes.

'Sky Wells' is a new iteration of the series 'LAWKI' made by ARK @ark.amsterdam (Federico Campagna @fedcampagna, Louis Braddock Clarke @louisbclarke, Roosje Klap @roosjeklap, Arran Lyon @arran.lyon, Senka Milutinović @senka.exe, Teoniki Rożynek @teoniki.rozynek, Valentin Vogelmann, and Zuzanna Zgierska @zznn.zgierska). Last November, we had a fantastic opening of the 'Right Where It Belongs' exhibition at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts @ntmofa_tw in Taichung! Our site-specific installation, 'Sky Wells,' will be on show until March 2, 2025.

Arran, Valentin, and I are grateful for the warm welcome in Taichung and want to thank NTMoFA for commissioning the work, Chih-Yung Aaron Chiu and Jay Chun-Chieh Lai @jay_chun_chieh_lai for curating the multifaceted show, Patricia Yun-Hsin Hsu @theycallmecia, Huang Ching-Chung @chuchihuang, and Pan Ying-Jia @winner_pan for coordinating and co-writing the screenplay, the museum team for taking care of details, and the Taichung public for all the inspiring conversations! Also, it was lovely catching up with you, Hsiang-Yun @hsiang_yun.zip!

SKY WELLS premiered at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (@ntmofa_tw) in the group show ‘Right Where It Belongs’.

Inspired by Kevin Kelly’s concept of the ‘Technium,’ the exhibition explores the integration of technology and the natural world, questioning how cold machinery and warm Earth coexist. Technology, seen as an extension of the human mind, shapes and challenges humanity’s evolution while influencing how we perceive and engage with the world around us.

For the exhibition ‘Bold City, Brave Decisions’ at @hdagraz, we delved into a type system depicting the brave pathway of the Dutch northern capital, Groningen, and its urban transformation over the decades. The show fosters lively discussions about the challenges and future decisions a city must make. How are these similar to those faced by its Austrian sister city, Graz? Come and find out!
