All in all, I lived a lot of life this year.

To all the mom’s, especially the new moms, I see you & we’re in this thing. To those thinking about moving abroad, do it. It’s possible, even in the midst of drastic life changes.

6 things moving abroad changed about me…

My relationship with God. Moving to a predominantly Muslim country as a Christian woman has been a blessing in a lot of ways. Seeing Muslims pray often encourages me to pray and communicate with God all the more🥹Also, since we don’t have an SDA church home here, I’ve been motivated even more to seek the Lord in my devotional time rather than relying on weekly sabbath services. I’m realizing daily that the church really isn’t brick and mortar….we literally are the church and the vessel in which the Spirit dwells. Though I miss my physical church family, I’m grateful that being away has strengthened my faith.

My skin. My skin has a glow and a softness to it ever since I left the states. I don’t know if it’s the water, the food, or both but it’s been good to me. I feel more comfortable wearing less makeup now that my skin is thriving.

My style. In the states you can get away with coming out the house in sweats or sports gear, but here in Morocco, you better step out right. Seeing all the beautiful girlies here made me want to step up my wardrobe game.

Socializing. In the states, it’s easy to go to a restaurant and nobody will speak to you but the waiter. Here in Morocco, folks talk to one another. Whether it’s the say hi to my daughter or to ask where I’m from, people here wanna chat and I’m not mad at it. I’ve made a lot of great connections.

Movement. Living in a walkable city is the best thing to happen to me and my body. In the U.S., I drove everywhere. I could go days without the walking much. Now that I’m in Morocco, I walk everywhere: to the store, the beach, the Medina, everywhere. A 40-minute walk is nothing to me.

My confidence. I’m slowly learning Arabic and a little bit of French. Testing out what I know even in small interactions has made me stretch myself and I’m proud of that. It’s hard but to see people’s face light up just from me asking their name in their native tongue makes my heart happy.
