My mom immigrated to the US from Thailand 50 years ago today at the age of 25. She is the eldest of 10 and left her entire family behind to pursue higher education in a completely foreign country not knowing any English or a single soul here.

Her struggles as an immigrant, the racism she endured, and her perseverance to create a better life despite all of these obstacles has undoubtedly shaped me into who I am today. Her love of Thai cuisine, all things spicy, cooking, and showing she cares through food has been a major influence on me and is one of the reasons I began this foodie journey.

I am so proud of my Mom and to be the daughter of an immigrant. It is not lost on me that I currently live where her American experience began in Washington, DC in June of 1972. I love you, Mom! ❤️🇹🇭🇺🇸

Last weekend at @nlwaterpark’s grand opening! We had such a blast eating our way through @jbgsmith’s latest development in Arlington’s @nationallanding with 11 different restaurant kiosks in a unique outdoor setting.

This is the perfect place to sip and stroll (alcoholic beverages are permitted throughout) and to try a variety of different cuisines, including local favorites @queenmothersdc @phowheelsdmv @tikithaireston @crackedeggery. Core memories unlocked 🔓 The energy in that stadium for the @fifaworldcup quarterfinal was pure electricity. ⚡️⚽️

Watching Mbappé play live was unreal. France played a beautiful game and fully earned that win. Allez Les Bleus! 🇫🇷💙

Massive respect to Morocco, though. They played with so much heart and left everything on the pitch. 🇲🇦❤️

The energy and unity between the fans was something special. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience we’ll never forget!

As a Thai-American creator, nothing makes me prouder than seeing my culture, community, and flavors thrive in the DMV! 🇹🇭✨

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Dok Khao Thai Eatery’s newest location in Alexandria, VA. This latest opening from the Pattana Restaurant Group is a wonderful reflection of Chef Pat’s culinary roots, blending authentic Thai street food with her Southern Thai heritage and family traditions.

Vibes were high last night @thipkhaodc! 🇱🇦✨

It was such a joy to hear the conversation between @chefseng, the Godmother of the Lao Food Movement, and @saengdouangdara for the launch of his book, The Lao Kitchen. Watching the legendary Chef Seng—who has spent years courageously paving the way—share the stage with Saeng is exactly what the Lao Food Movement is about: uplifting Lao cuisine and inviting everyone to embrace its bold, beautiful flavors.

As Saeng says, “Make Laab, Not War.” 🤟🏼That spirit of peace and community building was front and center, thanks in large part to Aleena @sinhinthecity. Her passion for the @laofoodmovement shined through as moderator, bringing people together with such heart and purpose. Congrats to @thi.ng26 & @joliedg on their first @drink.phe pop-up! 🤎 The drinks were seriously fantastic—10/10 no notes (especially the fish sauce syrup!!!). My only regret is not getting the coconut jelly or mini flan add-ons or the dessert. This pop-up @anydaynowdc sold out within the first 3 hours and I already can’t wait for the next one!
