This inexpensive, simple game is so much fun for dogs - and it’s great for their health. Dogs need physical *and* mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy.

✨I call this one Sniff and Search. Pick out one of your dog’s favorite snacks - a treat, fruit, vegetable, or even some kibble. (I used an egg).

✅ Depending on your dog’s confidence level and drive, this game will be different:

🔅Low Confidence:
• let the dog sniff the treat and watch you throw it
• don’t make it too hard for them (then increase difficulty as needed)
• this game is mentally stimulating, highly rewarding, and can increase confidence!

🔆 High confidence (and drive):
• let them sniff the treat
• hide it somewhere and don’t let them see
• don’t put the treat near any poisonous vegetation or debris in the area (⚠️ careful around overgrown foliage - it’s tick season)

⚜️Let your dog sniff, it is highly beneficial. Even 20 minutes of sniffing a day (with dedicated scent work or not) is amazing for their brains, optimism, and mood.

💬 If you don’t know your dog’s confidence level, let me know. I can help walk you through it.

Arlo decided to run away and chase the ducks by a small lake behind our house today. Usually the lake is dry.

But it rained.

And filled up with just enough water for him to ✨think✨he was on solid ground.

Of course I’m calling him, but he doesn’t mind. He leaps, I’m talking completely airborne.

And instead of landing on hard ground, like usual, he goes completely underwater.

I got a good laugh and the WAY he jumped out so fast and slinked back home. Lesson learned.

The way he was just laying in the storm smelling the breeze at first… I guess he’s over his fear of storms… that’s good right? by @arlo.and.julia
