It’s happened again.

Announcing our presence at the door gives the subject inside time to prepare while officers remain exposed outside. We take steps to make the encounter safer for the subject but we must also protect the breachers and guys standing outside.

The fatal funnel remains one of the most dangerous places an officer can stand. That’s why we created the Guardian Breaching Shield. Our goal has always been to put ballistic protection in front of the breacher while they work.

On this one it sounds like a shield was requested and positioned at the window. That protection matters. But we should also consider protection on the hot side of the door, where the breachers and primary entry team is exposed to this very threat. Maybe using two ballistic shields can help.

The danger doesn’t begin when the door opens. Our protection shouldn’t either.

Another SWAT team shot at breach point while knocking and announcing.

A few days ago, at approximately 5:00 a.m., officers knocked, announced, and waited more than 1 minute and 20 seconds at a locked door before breaching.

This footage is a reminder: recognize the type of door, understand the locking system, and know which tools are needed before you commit to the threshold.

Policies and procedures are often written by people who do not have to stand in front of that door. But when the moment comes, it is the breacher’s life on the line.

Traditionally, the breacher’s protection is with the team behind him. The Guardian Breaching Shield was developed for moments like this, to place rifle-rated protection in front of the breacher while he works the door.

Plan the approach. Select the right tools. Control the exposure. Train for the breach.

When a door is reinforced, every additional second spent standing in front of it increases the danger to the breacher and the entire team.

Test your options before the mission. Understand their strengths, recognize their limitations, and know which method gives your team the safest and most efficient path inside.

When facing a heavily reinforced door or deadman-style security bars, energetic breaching may be the only viable option.

Don’t wait until the moment of truth to find out what works.

Train it. Test it. Trust it.

Energetic breaching must only be performed by properly trained and authorized personnel.

What a way to close out the 2026 Breacher's Symposium!

This past week in Polk County, we had the opportunity to put the Guardian Breaching Shield in front of breachers and operators from agencies across the country and the world. We demonstrate exactly why we created it.

Range day kicked off with a great scenario, setting the tone for an awesome day of training and demonstrations. When it was our turn, we got to show something simple: breachers shouldn’t have to give up ballistic protection to do their job.
The response was incredible. A lot of great conversations, a lot of interest in our breaching shield and most importantly, feedback from the guys who actually do the job.

Huge thank you to Polk County, Sheriff Grady Judd, the Polk County SWAT Team, TEES, Alan, and everyone who came out and gave us the opportunity to demonstrate what the Guardian Breaching Shield can do.

We’re just getting started.

It’s been a busy couple of days here in Lakeland, Florida, at the Breachers Symposium with TEEs. We’ve had some great conversations, connected with incredible people, and showcased what Armored Breach is all about, a safer way to breach.

Last week, I finally told the story it took me 7 years to find the courage to share.

I walked onto that stage praying I could get through it without completely falling apart… so when everyone suddenly started standing up at the end, for a second I got scared and thought something was happening. 😂 Apparently my flight attendant emergency instincts are still very much alive.

What I still can’t wrap my heart around is how one story could move so many people in so many different ways. So many started with, “I know everyone is probably telling you the same thing…” and yes, apparently there wasn’t a dry eye in the room 🥹 but then they would tell me what part of my story met them in their own life, and every answer was different. I’m still trying to take that in. It might take me another 7 years to find the words for this one.

I went onto that stage hoping my story might help even one person. I walked away completely overwhelmed by what God did with it.

For 7 years, I wondered why I couldn’t find the courage or the words to share my story.

But I don’t believe God does anything by coincidence. Maybe I wasn’t meant to tell it sooner. Maybe He was simply waiting for the right moment, the right place, and the hearts that needed to hear it.

Maybe I wasn’t late.
Maybe this was simply His time.

So humbled. So grateful. And forever thankful to Bombardier and their incredible team for inviting me to share my story.

There are a lot of accomplishments I’m proud of in life, but nothing compares to earning this look.

Everything I do is for this moment.

I strive every day to be the kind of dad my son deserves. I choose not to drink alcohol or smoke because I want to give him the best version of me; not just today, but every day. I want him to remember a dad who was present, clear-minded and fully invested in his life.

When I’m afraid, I step forward anyway. Not because I don’t feel fear, but because I never want fear to become his inheritance. I want courage to be. I push through my insecurities so he learns that bravery isn’t the absence of fear. It’s doing what’s right despite it.

He watches everything I do.

The way he looks at me today is the same way I looked at my father growing up. That thought humbles me because I know I’m shaping the man he’ll become.

If one day he becomes a better man than I ever was, then I’ll know it was mission accomplished and I succeeded.

Everything I do is for that look.
