I curated the ADE program for @benelux.bar this year. After a few decades in the music industry, it’s great to learn new things. It’s been so much fun creating this lovely five-day calendar together with our hosting partners.

Now that ADE is increasingly globalizing, I believe it’s important to keep supporting the local scene. That’s why our main focus is to host a myriad of cool Amsterdam and NL organizations.

But we’re also proud to have an American house label on board and to host a Brazilian night and DJ conference. And a great diversity of high quality local and international artists.

Hats off to our hosting partners for these exquisite lineups. Can’t wait to see it all unfold. Come check us out, if any of these nights/artists speak to you.

House has always been a feeling for Aron Friedman, who has played an active role in the Dutch electronic music scene for the last twenty-five years; as an artist, promoter, journalist and copywriter. He has performed at many renowned clubs and festivals in the Netherlands and abroad, has released a string of EPs and remixes (ao. as Spaceandtime, together with Mathew Jonson), and has written for leading music publications like VICE, ResidentAdvisor and DJMag. As an artist and a journalist, Aron Friedman likes to dig deeper, uncovering some of the most enchanting gems and remarkable stories.

Behind the decks, Aron aims to move you physically, mentally and spiritually. Instead of limiting himself to one specific genre, each DJ-set is a surprising journey through a lifetime of crate digging and dance floor dedication. As a promoter, Aron keeps his finger on the pulse of the city’s vibrant underground by offering a platform to many upcoming artists. He co-runs several successful parties: Confetteria, Amsterdam’s longest running and most glamorous NYD celebration; De Druppel, an illegal rave and a homage to the free party scene; and his newest Sunday day party at Benelux Bar – together with San Francisco pioneer Galen – called Hazy Days.

My @landjuweel.festival set is up on SoundCloud. The lovely @bon_bon_vivant crew asked me to play one that wasn’t based on house. So I decided to explore my profound love for the DJs of the disco era, who were boldly eclectic, experimental and psychedelic. The Psychedelic Mirror Ball was an ode to that era of freedom and exploration.

“If you’ve ever wondered what the inside of a mirror ball sounds like, you’ve come to the right place. Space disco, funk, rock, and other mind-expanding dance tunes morph into a psychedelic groove to make you move. Easy on the Kool-Aid though, it’s laced with... Oh, never mind, too late now. Buckle up and enjoy the ride!”

What an evening. As the summer sun started setting over Landuweel, we got deeper into the 3h journey. It was such a pleasure to play my favorite tunes from across the ages and all across the board. I hope you’ll enjoy the recording as much as I enjoyed playing this set. Link in bio ->>

@ingekea_ and @aron_friedman curated De Spot again this year at De Kas. Three days of workshops, talks, performances, theatre, comedy, and music — slowly morphing into a steamy club when night fell.

What a treat to have this modular space as a playground for our broad range of cultural expressions. We’re very grateful for all of the artists, performers, and speakers who graced our stage. You have all contributed to De Spot/De Kas’ unique and colorful vibe.

Confetteria, thank you for a magnificent decade. It was such a privilege to be part of this extraordinary chapter. I owe some of the greatest moments of my DJ’ing, promoting, and clubbing life to you. But after ten years, we’re closing the book on our beloved New Year’s Day party.

Ten years of Confetteria; what a ride! From the moment Bas Engels invited me and Eric de Man to DJ for their maiden voyage in 2014, it felt unlike any other party I’d ever attended. There was so much joy, exuberance, and confetti! I’ll miss finding those little suckers for months after the party was over. And I’ll miss putting together what we hoped each time would be the most legendary party of the year.

Confetteria was phenomenal to me in many ways. I met so many people there who’ve enriched my life – among them great friends, and most importantly: the love of my life. Confetteria was also the place where I grew as a promoter. Working together with this team of legends was inspiring and often hilarious. Co-creating the lineup (big up to Julia) and so many other crazy ideas was a party in itself.

It was amazing to feel supported as an artist. Being a DJ – or any type of artist, for that matter – can be the greatest job in the world, yet also lonely and uncertain. Receiving trust in your talent and heartfelt support builds confidence. Thank you, Confetteria, for creating a safe space for me and others to excel in. You even gave me the courage to sing in front of a full Ruigoord church. That means the world.

Thank you, team, for having me on board: Evelien, Kim, Lisa, Tim, Nanna, Marchien, Julia, Idzard, Dominique, and my love Inge. Special shout out to our dear Bas for bringing us all together and inventing Confetteria. Love also to Daniel Zuur. Even though you guys aren’t with us anymore, you live on in our hearts. And last but not least, thanks to the colorful co-creators and attendees who made Confetteria such a lasting memory.

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article for @z_de_amsterdamse_straatkrant about @defikamsterdam - the unsung heroes of the free party scene.

Amsterdam may be one of the world’s greatest hubs for electronic music, famous for its top-tier festivals, events, and clubs. But without the underground and its community, we’d be a hollowed-out industry.

The free party scene is at the heart of everything. It’s where organizations and artists make their first waves. It’s where rave culture’s original values of DIY and radical acceptance are upheld every weekend.

I’ve been a DJ and a promoter for 25 years, and some of the best parties I’ve organized were illegal raves – many powered by De Fik. They were there providing sound, light, volunteers, and good vibes.

It fills me with pride to see these legends building @defikgarden after 20 years of nomadic raving. It was an absolute pleasure to visit @peel.collective there. And I’m grateful to have made the cover.

@z_de_amsterdamse_straatkrant helps homeless people earn a living. Next time you see someone carrying the paper, please support them by buying it. You might even stumble across some of my work.

Dit jaar programmeren wij op @wildeburg weer DE SPOT – festival-oase voor de nieuwsgierige Wildeburger. Een plek voor inspanning en ontspanning, inspiratie en verbinding.

Midden in de food court, pal tegenover de Wildlive, vind je deze kleine parel. Je kunt er dagelijks van ’s ochtends vroeg tot in de vroege avond terecht voor een wervelende potpourri van workshops, talks en activiteiten.
