My father, Professor Stanley Edward D’Souza, died this week.

Dad lived an extraordinary life. He left India as a young man, came to Australia as one of the early Indian students of his generation, received his PhD from the University of Melbourne, and ultimately built his life and career in the United States. As a scientist and professor, he spent 40 years on the faculty of the Scripps Research Institute, the Cleveland Clinic and, finally, the University of Louisville.

His death was sudden and completely unexpected. He suffered a heart attack and died at the University of Louisville Hospital — the institution where he had spent so much of his professional life. There was something profoundly fitting about the way his life ended. The attending physicians, nurses and staff caring for him were his former students, trainees, colleagues and friends.

He died as he had always said he hoped to: quickly, without prolonged suffering, and in the care of people he knew and trusted. In the shock and sadness of losing him so unexpectedly, that has been a source of real comfort.

He was intensely curious, deeply intellectual, stubborn, funny, complicated, generous, and endlessly interested in the world. He loved science, music, ideas, literature, and his family. Much of what I value — ambition, curiosity, independence of mind, and the belief that a life should be used fully — came from him.

I was fortunate to spend time recording his life story with him before he died. Listening to his voice now, and hearing him describe the people, places and accidents of history that shaped his life, feels like an extraordinary gift.

There is an enormous absence where he used to be. I miss him terribly, and I am immensely proud to be his son.

We will hold a memorial service for Dad in Cleveland in October, and a second memorial in Australia in December. We will share details of both in due course.

I'm proud to lead the @enhanced_games — a bold reimagination of global athletics. By challenging outdated rules and embracing safe, supervised enhancement, we aim to push the boundaries of human potential and redefine sports.

This is more than a competition; it’s a statement about innovation, empowerment, and the future of performance.

While critics resist change, I believe the Enhanced Games will captivate the world and set a new standard for athletic excellence. Join the conversation and imagine the possibilities!

To my friends from Shaker Heights and Cleveland: my family and I will be gathering to celebrate the life of my father, Professor Stanley Edward D’Souza, who passed away on 3 September.

Cleveland held a special place in Dad’s life, through his work at the Cleveland Clinic, lasting friendships and his love of the Cleveland Orchestra. We’ll remember him at Severance Hall on Saturday, 7 November, from 10–11 am, with lunch afterwards.

I haven’t been back to Cleveland in years. It would mean so much to see old friends and the families we grew up with — to celebrate Dad’s life and reconnect after so many years.

Please join us if you can, whether you knew Dad or would simply like to be there with us.

RSVP: aron@arondsouza.com. A livestream will also be available; please email for details. taken in Severance Hall by @aronpingdsouza

🎙️ Episode 178: Enhanced Games with Dr. Aron D’Souza

What if the future of sports wasn’t about banning enhancement… but embracing it? 👀

In this thought-provoking and high-energy episode, @aronpingdsouza , founder and president of the @enhanced_games , joins us to explore how science, technology, and innovation are pushing human performance into uncharted territory. From redefining what “fair competition” means to the rise of brain-computer interfaces and next-gen medical breakthroughs, we dive into how the Enhanced Games are challenging outdated systems and opening the door to a new era of athletic and cognitive evolution.

Dr. D’Souza shares why he believes we’re entering an Enhanced Age, one where transparency, health, and data-driven optimization replace secrecy and stigma. We also tackle big questions: How do we balance access and equity in enhancement technology? What role should healthcare systems play as humans merge with technology? And how will the economics of performance shape the next generation of athletes?

💡 Key Takeaways:
🔥 The Enhanced Games are redefining sport by prioritizing athlete freedom, safety, and innovation over outdated regulation.
🧠 Cognitive and physical enhancement technology could unlock human potential far beyond what we thought possible.
💰 The economic ripple effect of human optimization could reshape industries from healthcare to performance science.
⚖️ The rise of enhancement raises urgent questions about access, ethics, and who gets to benefit from the future of human evolution.

We’re stepping into what Dr. D’Souza calls the Enhanced Age, and whether you’re ready or not, it’s already here.

Aron D’Souza is an Australian entrepreneur, lawyer, and theorist best known as the president of the Enhanced Games, a proposed sporting event that permits the use of performance-enhancing substances. He presents the Games as a challenge to the Olympic model, arguing that traditional sport has failed to keep pace with science and that enhancement should be openly embraced.

D’Souza has cultivated a reputation for provocation, positioning himself against established institutions and orthodoxies. He has framed the Enhanced Games not only as an athletic competition but as a cultural intervention designed to spark debate about technology, human potential, and individual freedom. His outspoken defense of enhancement has attracted both sharp criticism and curiosity, making him one of the unique and polarizing figures in contemporary sport.

Before launching the Enhanced Games, D’Souza was briefly involved as a lawyer, providing legal support in the Bollea vs. Gawker Media case in 2016. He has also written and spoken about political philosophy, transhumanism, and biotechnology.

Through these ventures, D’Souza’s ventures consistently seek to question the rules that govern public life. The Phil is honoured to welcome Mr. D’Souza and hear more about his work, life and the future of modern sport. taken in Graduates Memorial Building by @aronpingdsouza

Aron D’Souza calls the Olympics “the most durable monopoly in history.”

In his view, it’s a system where the IOC gets rich while athletes, taxpayers, and host cities lose out. He says disruption is inevitable.

The new episode with Enhanced Games president Aron D’Souza is out now.
