Why is eastern Bengal predominantly Muslim, while western Bengal remains predominantly Hindu, despite centuries of Muslim rule in both? Richard Eaton’s The Rise of Islam and the Bengal Frontier, 1204–1760 offers a fascinating explanation. The answer lies in shifting rivers, agricultural expansion, Mughal land grants and the indigenous population inhabiting the eastern delta. As forests gave way to farmland, new settlements emerged, often around Muslim pirs and religious institutions. Over generations, Islamic beliefs blended with indigenous traditions, gradually transforming religious identities. Later, reform movements and increasing contact with the Arab world encouraged a more distinct Islamic identity. A fascinating account of how geography, economics, politics and culture shaped Bengal’s religious history. Far more complex than the familiar narrative of conquest and conversion. #richardeaton #mustreads #instabook by @aroyfloyd
A little breakdown of my guitar design for “Ekhane Tomar Kotha” from @aroyfloyd Da's album "Byatha Nei"🤍 From the nylon-string (classical) guitar in the M1 solo to the dreamy, melodic tones of the final electric guitar solo.. every element was designed to complement the song’s emotion while blending a modern Bengali sound with a touch of Vintage+Modern inspiration..🔥🤘🏻 Here’s a little glimpse into the creative process behind the strings. ❤️ Hope you enjoy this breakdown! Listen to the full song and let me know your favourite guitar part in the comments! " আমি চলে যেতে চাই বহুদূরে" @aroyfloyd 🤍 Highway, directed by Imtiaz Ali, is not just a film-it's an emotional journey that quietly stays with you long after it ends. Starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, the movie explores freedom, trauma, and self-discovery in the most raw and unconventional way. The story follows Veera, a wealthy young woman who gets kidnapped just before her wedding. What begins as a terrifying experience slowly turns into something unexpectedly liberating for her. As she travels across different landscapes with her kidnapper Mahabir, she starts confronting her past and finds a strange sense of peace in chaos. Alia Bhatt delivers one of her finest performances-natural, vulnerable, and deeply moving. This film truly established her as a serious actor. Randeep Hooda is equally powerful, portraying a hardened man with hidden pain in a very subtle way. Their chemistry isn't romantic in the usual sense, but it's intense and real. The direction by Imtiaz Ali is soulful and poetic. He lets the silence speak, making the journey feel personal. The cinematography beautifully captures the raw beauty of India-from highways to mountains-adding depth to Veera's emotional transformation. The music by A. R. Rahman, especially songs like "Patakha Guddi", perfectly complements the film's mood. However, the movie isn't for everyone. Its slow pace and unconventional storytelling may not appeal to those expecting a typical Bollywood drama. But if you appreciate meaningful cinema, Highway is deeply impactful. #anupamroy #aliabhatt #reels #explore @aliaabhatt ❤️✨ by @aroyfloyd
