The MAD World of Harvey Kurtzman will mark its World Premiere @edfilmfest on Sunday 16 August, in competition for the Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence.

Directed by @tallbartsimpson (The Corporation) and Executive Produced by iconic filmmaker Terry Gilliam the film explores the extraordinary life and legacy of MAD Magazine creator Harvey Kurtzman, revealing how he transformed comics, satire and popular culture forever.

An @intuitivepictures and @aconitedocs production, the film is produced by Ina Fichman and Aimara Reques, with financial support from @telefilm_canada @screenscots and @britishfilminstitute / UK Global Screen Fund.

Executive Producer Terry Gilliam said: “When Mad Comics came out, it completely changed my view of the world. Because it was the first time I was dealing with humour in a way I’d never experienced before, and the idea of parody was something I didn’t even know of. It was the beginning of my fascination with Harvey Kurtzman. He was the god ultimately for me by the time I got to college. My films have always been about what my version of reality is…. They may become surreal, they may become silly, but the reality is the central to it, and that all comes from Harvey. I am his creation (and you are my audience, so Harvey is still alive and with us folks).”

The press run for @shoot_the_people has finally come to an end.

From screenings in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto and New York, it felt only right that the final stop was a sold-out screening at the @ritzy_cinema
The first place i went to watch a cinematic film and spent countless hours there dreaming that one day I’d make films worthy of the big screen. Before the screening, I took a wander around the manor. Much has changed, but the spirit remains the same.

This has been my first proper theatrical release, and it’s been an experience I’ll never forget.

A huge thank you to everyone at @watermelonpictures and @arprpublicity Together they’ve orchestrated a truly independent grassroots distribution campaign that has created real momentum and proved that independent films can still find and move audiences.

Thank you to everyone that has been part of the journey. The feedback that has stayed with me most is that, in challenging times, people have left the cinema feeling something we all need a little more of: hope. @misanharriman apt middle name and i’ll forever be honoured that i got to tell his story. Thank you brother🙌🏽

The film goes on to live its life…If #shootthepeople comes to a cinema or festival near you, I hope you’ll come support and experience it for yourself.
