Very excited to share the short film we created to accompany the photography from our shoot with Josh Brolin.

Thank you to Josh, everyone at Empire Magazine and to my incredible team of collaborators, who lent their time and talents to make this happen. Full credits in the comments. by @arseniiv

@Joshbrolin for the cover of @empiremagazine

A lot of things aligned perfectly on this project. I was so excited when @neonmessiah & @joannamoran approached me for this shoot. It would be our first time working together and it is not lost on me how much trust it takes to dive into the deep end together right away. Thank you both for your support, collaboration and for giving me the freedom to bring these visuals to life.

Ever since I saw “No Country”, I was on Josh’s team. He has such a presence both on and off the screen, you can’t help but to root for him. After getting to know him and working together, I can say that presence goes beyond the craft of acting. It’s a choice he makes, to be 100% dedicated to each moment.

I had spent several weeks working on the pre-vis for this shoot. We wanted to do all these effects practically, in-camera, on an editorial budget. I am extremely grateful to our crew who invested much of their time and energy into this project before we even got to the studio. After a lot of calls, lighting diagrams, camera math and animation tests everyone felt like we had a good chance at hitting this thing right.

On the day of the shoot I had five minutes to introduce myself to Josh and to transfer all my ideas and dreams for this project to him. He was instantly game to jump off the cliff with us, and for that, I will always be thankful.

THE STUDIO for @thewrap

Video was not part of the original ask on this shoot, but it seemed like too good of an opportunity to pass up.

I knew that our concepts would translate really well to motion and since I usually work with continuous lighting it was as easy as bringing on a trusted DP who could operate next to me while I directed and photographed the talent. I tapped my friend @bengoodman_dp for the role and he captured some great moments without adding any extra time to the tight schedule. Our gaffer @lukaszanoli and I discussed ahead of time how we can make simple but captivating effects in camera and how to keep the lighting cohesive across both assets.

My good friends & frequent collaborators @wtbr.tv helped elevate the video further with a thoughtful and creative approach to the edit and @roastnpost_oakland did a wonderful job matching my stills color palette.

Huge thanks to everyone for making this happen!

@interpol for @nytimes

I got to spend an hour with @bankspaulbanks & @danielalexanderkessler ahead of their show at The Warfield. We listened to Miles Davis & Alice Coltrane, talked about balancing parenting while being on the road and the quiet wisdom of @rza . A perfect day.

Thanks to Paul & Daniel for your time, collaboration and for the incredible records over the years.

Thanks to @hollis.j @amandalwebster for the call, @patrick_aguilar for the assist, and to @gracegracee @partisanrecords for making the shoot so easy and smooth.

More from this shoot soon! by @arseniiv

Jordan Firstman for The Wrap

@jtfirstman is one of my favorite comedians and it’s been so exciting to see his career go from IG to TV to his directorial debut “Club Kid” premiering at Cannes. Love to see it.

Also, I don’t know if @alievaselenko has ever been more excited about one of my subjects.
