I always spend time building a warm underpainting before going in with full color. Laying down these soft, translucent washes sets the tone, establishes the values, and gives the final layers a subtle glow from underneath.

It’s that time again! ⏳Setting up the foundation for this 130x180 cm piece with a warm underpainting. 🎨✨

But why do I create an underpainting?
➡️ I always map out my values and shadows first because it takes away the intimidation of a massive blank canvas. It also creates a tonal depth that peeps through the final layers of paint. 🌟

Hi to all the new people who’ve found their way here lately 👋🏼🤎 I’m Anna. 33. Denmark.

My route here has been a little all over the place. I’ve studied everything from medicine and communication to leadership and engineering, with engineering being the one degree I actually finished 😅 After years on a very different path in a ~very~ corporate world, I decided to give art a proper chance this year. It still feels very new, slightly terrifying and very much like I’m figuring it out as I go.

Now I paint full time from my studio just outside Aarhus, Denmark. I’m also mum to two little troublemakers, Theodor (5) and Arthur (1) 👦🏼👶🏼 which probably explains some of the inspiration.

And I’m still a little blown away by how much love this painting has received 🥹 So many lovely messages, comments and shares, and somehow he sold before I even got to officially release him… with a waiting list 🫣

Thank you for being here. It genuinely means more than you probably realise ❤️

“…Because childhood rarely looks important while it’s happening”

I think the things that drive us slightly mad now are going to become some of the memories we miss the most. 🤎

The climbing. The fingerprints. The “I only looked away for TWO seconds.”

This is the first painting in a little series about childhood mischief and all those ordinary moments that become the ones we remember - once it’s quiet (and clean) again. Even if those moments look like noise, mess, chaos and us just trying to get through the day with plenty of coffee and baby wipes.

And then one day, I think we’ll look back and realise… that was the good stuff. 🤎

150 × 100 cm, original painting.

Quite a few of you have already asked about him, which honestly means so much 🥹 I’ve kept a list and I’ll DM everyone on it before I officially put him up for sale.

I think I’ve found the series I want to keep painting. 🤎

Little glimpses of childhood chaos, the things they climb on, touch, “fix” and somehow turn into part of their own little world. The magic is in the chaos and the “ordinary moments” we don’t see.

The kind of moments that drive us, sleep-deprived parents, slightly mad now, but will probably be the ones we miss the most later, once the chaos has settled, the house is quiet and the windows are once again free of sticky handprints.🥺

So I’m painting them while they’re still here. 🥹

This little mischievous boy is soon ready to find his new home. Could it be yours? ❤️

One day the house will be quiet. The furniture will stay where we put it. Nothing will be climbed on, swung from or mysteriously covered in fingerprints.

I keep thinking about how the moments we rush through every day are probably the ones we’ll miss the most. The mess, the noise, the climbing on things they shouldn’t. The loud cry “MOM” for the 47th time in a 16 minutes timespan.

And meanwhile… this is it. This is their childhood. 🤎

Soft and worn and completely different once the sunlight catches the metallic details.

This one feels a little more quiet to me - in a really good way. Similar to when you realise, quiet, ordinary moments, can become extraordinary in the right light and mindset - and with the right people 🤍💭

This is the stage where I hope the painting becomes ~better~ than the idea that started it. 🤞🙈

First warm underpainting layer going on, where I’m blocking in the initial shadows and shapes before all the actual colours and details goes on top.

Keeping it loose for now and trying very hard not to overwork it five minutes in. 😂

Next up: more paint, more mess, and all the splatters. ❤️
