Flowers will probably always be my favorite subject to paint. 🌸
That doesn't mean I never wander off. From time to time, I enjoy painting animals or spending time with Dolly. But somehow, I always return to flowers.
There’s something about their softness, movement, and endless variety that keeps inspiring me, brushstroke after brushstroke.

Pink Cymbidium Orchids.
There is nothing better than holding a finished painting after a wonderful session in the studio! 🌸 I loved bringing these soft pink orchids to life, balancing detailed observation with loose, flowing watercolor washes. Letting the paint move freely across the textured paper gives every blossom so much lightness and character. I hope my creative journey inspires your own artistic path! ✨🎨

A Soft Step Into the New Year👩‍🦰🤍

Dear followers, artist friends, and other interested ones,

This little masked collage holds a year of painting, dreaming, and learning to slow down.
My art keeps teaching me to breathe, to take my time, to let things unfold instead of rushing.
Dolly, my inner guide, shows me what brings joy and spark,
while my adult self gently invites her into rest and balance.
Together they help me create with more softness and presence.
Thank you for being here with me ✨

Have a wonderful peaceful new year
Rien 🎆👩‍🦰🤍

I’m Rien. I am a Dutch artist.

I’ve always been someone who makes things.
School decors, body- and facepainting, Christmas ornaments, clothes, garden designs, home makeovers — wherever I lived, I found something to create. And whenever I travelled, there was always a sketchbook in my bag. That part hasn’t changed.

During the covid years, when I was staying with my partner in Amsterdam and everything stopped, I started painting again. It felt natural, like picking up a thread I didn’t realise I’d dropped.

These days I work mostly from my living room in Hilversum. My pace is slower now, and I paint when I have the energy. Watercolour and mixed media, small and gentle pieces that fit the rhythm of my life. And yes — my sketchbook still comes with me to Amsterdam.

This is me. This is my space.
I’m glad you’re here.😃🙏

My plates are finished. 🍽️✨ I made them myself with bisque clay, glazed them, and was looking forward to see how they turned out after the kiln. 🏺🔥 I am happy with them. They look great. 😊🎨
Thanks, @marga_ceramics, for your lessons. 🙏

Often I'm drawn to the smallest things.
A delicate flower, a butterfly wing, a bumblebee covered in pollen, or a colour combination that makes me stop and look a little longer.
I love the sweet, charming nature of these tiny details. Together they feel like little flower gardens of their own, each with a story waiting to be noticed.
These miniature paintings were inspired by those small moments of wonder. Not one particular place or season, but a collection of colours, petals, wings and textures that caught my attention and stayed with me.
Painting them felt like gathering tiny treasures and creating a world where flowers bloom endlessly, butterflies linger a little longer and curiosity always has room to wander.
A little reminder that there is magic in the small things. 🦋🌿💙

Experimenting with tile painting and gouache. 🎨🖌️ Well the painting part worked but to put it in the oven and then it supposed to be dishwasher proof....defenitely not. 🚫🔥 So next time I probably have to use another paint. 💡✨ Any suggestions? 🤔🧐

Onverwacht in Volendam gespot.

A Gathering of Poppies — I never seem to tire of painting poppies. So today I painted the third one. Thanks @crystaltanart for your tutorial.
Poppies, their crinkled petals, dancing stems and delicate seed pods bring so much movement to the page. Some bloom fully open, others are still unfolding, each flower telling its own little story. Together these three watercolours celebrate colour, lightness and the joyful spontaneity that made me fall in love with poppies in the first place. A floral trio designed to bring warmth and softness to your home.
Thanks to AI together we create nice mockups.

Whispers of September — September is the month of hydrangeas. Their colourful flower heads fascinate me with endless shades of blue, lilac, pink and cream. I love how no bloom is ever exactly the same. Painting hydrangeas invites me to slow down, study the subtle colour changes and lose myself in the quiet beauty of the season. A gentle piece that brings softness and colour into your home. #hydrangeaart #watercolourart #septemberflowers #botanicalart #floralpainting by @art.by.rien

Yeah finally succeeded to get this calender 2027 from Mori girl's art life. So happy with it.
Year of the sheep calender so not only flowers but also pictures of sheep inside.
🌸🐑🌼🐑

Maybe I said cheap instead of sheep.

Fruits or flowers. It doesn't really matter. 🍎🌸 As long as it is colourful I love it. 🎨🌈 The vase and some fruits are collage. 🖼️✂️ And the rest is painted 🖌️✨
Wish you a nice day

White Anemones — I'm a true lover of colour, but every now and then a black and white flower finds its way onto my paper. And yes, even white is made of colour, just so little of it that it quietly appears white. Painting these delicate anemones felt calming and gentle, a reminder that beauty doesn't always need to be loud to be noticed. 🎨🌸✨

I think it looks really dramatic in the mockup. Kinda like it. 🖼️💫

AI content! True, but never my art. I always paint my work myself and then I like making mockups with AI. For me it is playing with different kind of backgrounds, styling an interior with my art. So wonderful to see it all coming together. 🖌️🏠🌟

And does it mean it is ready in a second. Not at all. Sometimes I spent hours on getting it right. Right for me at last. It is like decorating a house, my first passion. A vase here, a cabinet overthere, a candle there..... ⏳🕯️🛋️

I know there are AI haters. But it will never be a replacement of my art, just an adding element 🤝✨🎨
