Lost in it 🌀

Side note: I rarely record myself while I’m creating.

One…I forget 😂 Hours go by and somehow feel like seconds. Next thing I know, it’s 4am and I have to literally pull myself away and go to bed.

Two…I’ve always been a little hesitant to share my process because I’m pretty sure it’s not always the “right” way to do things.

But these days I’m a little more zero-fucks mode 😋 and way more open to sharing the BTS, the messy process, the experiments, the mistakes and eventually… the finished piece.

And hey, even if my process isn’t the best way, maybe I can at least help by showing you how NOT to do things😂 by @art.gasara

He’s older now, but Sebas has had his own style since the moment he started drawing at a really young age. Most artists spend their whole lives trying to find their niche. This kid was born with his.

Now he’s too cool for school and only cares about soccer but I see the day he comes back to art. He makes the sickest drawings. And yes, I know I’m his mom, but I’m definitely not the only one who has told him!

Art is a MUST in my house. Painting, sculpting, drawing, whatever… basically, he can’t escape it 😈He’ll thank me later lol.

I sound like a proud, annoying mom. Which I absolutely am… with massive sprinkles of coolness of course 🥰 Who can relate ? Teens 🫠 by @art.gasara

MIA → SFO → PPT → NUKU.
26+ hours.

From Miami to Nuku with my first completed oil painting… still wet. 😬

This painting was a birthday gift for an incredible human being, and it took about a month to complete. A month of fun, sleepless nights, beautiful early mornings, and one very big rookie mistake.

I chose OIL for a very close deadline.

About 70% into the painting, I learned that oil can take weeks to properly dry before varnishing.

Yikes.

I was in trouble. But there was no turning back, so I kept painting.

Then came the next problem: how exactly do you fly across the world with a wet oil painting?

I started researching every possible way to travel with it and came across an artist on Instagram who paints on top of acrylic floating frames.

That gave me an idea.

I measured everything, ordered an acrylic frame, and thankfully it arrived just in time. Then I bought the best packing materials I could find and basically built this painting a bulletproof travel case.

At 3 AM, just hours before we had to leave for the airport for our 8 AM flight, I was STILL painting… and packing.

MIA → SFO → PPT → NUKU.

26+ hours later, we finally arrived.

Opening that box was probably the most nerve wracking part of the entire trip. I was excited, curious, and genuinely scared to see what had happened inside after traveling that far.

We opened it and…

BOOM.

Exactly how we packed it in Miami.

Not a thing had moved.

So I got right back to work, except now my studio was paradise.

I had a few days left to finish the final details before handing it over to the birthday boy.

My first completed oil painting traveled from Miami to Nuku before it was even finished.

And somehow, we made it. ❤️‍🔥

So grateful for every sleepless night, every early morning, every rookie mistake, and every second of this experience. Most importantly, they loved it. 🥰

Onto the next adventure.

Stella although wearing a beautiful thick fur coat, loves going outside to sunbathe throughout the day.

Miami isn’t so fresh this time of year. So our adventure didn’t last too long!

Getting ready to paint somehow takes me longer than actually painting.

I stretch, dance a little, find the right music and eventually make my way to the canvas.

Then I go into flow state / zen mode.

Hours feel like minutes. I forget to drink water, eat, go to the bathroom… I go into another world and forget even the essentials.

Luckily Stella checks in every once in a while to remind me that it’s time for hugs and kisses. Most importantly to go outside lol.

Every airplane carries a thousand stories through the sky.

I’m still fascinated by how something so massive can fly above us so effortlessly. Everytime I see one, I wonder where it’s going and who is inside.

Someone is leaving home. Someone is returning. Someone is chasing a dream, meeting a stranger, falling in love, or beginning an entirely new chapter.

All those lives crossing paths for a few hours, inside one flying piece of art.

There’s wonder everywhere when you stay curious enough to notice it.
