We are pleased to introduce Mike Jongste, an artist based in Hoorn, the Netherlands, whose practice is guided by necessity rather than choice. Known as @mikes_art_

Drawing and painting have been part of his life from the moment he could hold a pencil. What began as instinct slowly revealed itself as identity — something that flows through him and must be expressed. About a decade ago, encouragement from those around him transformed a lifelong passion into a committed artistic path.

His journey toward finding his own visual language was neither quick nor effortless. Years of exploration, frustration, and perseverance shaped a style that now carries both clarity and depth. Each work reflects this process — not as perfection, but as honesty.

For Mike, creating is a way of translating emotion into form. His heart and soul live on paper, where feeling becomes line, and line becomes presence. When he sits at his drawing table, he finds stillness — and within that calm, understanding.

In a world defined by speed and noise, his work is an invitation to pause. To step away from constant motion and return to living rather than merely surviving. He believes creativity brings us back into harmony with ourselves — grounding, meditative, and deeply human.

Somewhere along the way, we were taught that being responsible meant choosing the safe option. Get a stable job. Be practical. Keep your dreams for the weekends.

But what if the thing you keep putting aside is the very thing you're supposed to be doing? There are people who have spent years trying to convince themselves that art is just a hobby. Yet every chance they get, they find their way back to it.

Back to the canvas. Back to the unfinished ideas. Back to that feeling of being completely themselves. Of course, bills need paying. Life needs managing. Nobody is pretending otherwise.

But building a life where your creativity has a real place in it? That's worth fighting for.

You only get one life. Don't spend it wondering what would have happened if you'd taken your art seriously.

Creativity is play. And somewhere along the way, we started taking it a little too seriously.

We started worrying about getting everything right. About whether a painting was good enough, whether the colours worked, whether anyone would like it.

Remember when you could just pick up a pencil and make something without thinking twice?

That feeling is still there.

Make a mess. Try something ridiculous. Paint over it. Start again. Laugh when it goes completely wrong.

Some of your favourite work might come from the days you had absolutely no plan. There are no mistakes in play. And we'd love to see what you've been creating.
