POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hey! My name’s Lexie and I’m a student artist working towards my degree in Art Practices at CU Boulder!

My emphasis is drawing and painting, but my passion is visual storytelling as a whole. I use art to tell vibrant, expressive stories through color, environment, and movement.

With my art degree, I want to work as an illustrator in tv and film someday, bringing creative stories to life in a collaborative workspace.

I’m also passionate about dance as a method of expression and I feel like its influence shows up in my work pretty clearly lol

🌸💃🏼⭐️

Oil painting - prompt was to crop an image

Yes I do do commissions so glad you asked
Hit me up if you want me to paint you something

All that’s been stuck in my head lately is Ethel Cain so that’s what’s I’ve been listening to while making art

The Art of Noticing.
This was a intro project for my studio Art Class last year. It was a good warm-up for the class, but it also shows how I see the worlds and the details I pay attention to.

One more finished sketchbook!
I started this one a few days off from exactly two years ago, right before I started AP Art during my senior year.
These are some of my favorite pages, mostly watercolor paintings of songs that call to me.
I liked the small size of this book because it made it feel lower -stakes than trying to fill a large sketchbook. I worked a lot on painting and composition technique over the past two years and I’m excited to see what the next stage of my art journey will bring 🍃💐🌙

This song has always rang true to who and where I am, especially right now. Its sad but longingly hopeful tone hits home for how I’ve been feeling this summer.
-
As I’m about to enter my second year of college, I feel strongly pulled out into the greater world. I have a hunger for life and experience that can no longer be satiated by staying where I am. It is tinged with nostalgic sadness for everything I am leaving behind, but this was always going to be my path.

One of the reasons I love gouache is because it is like watercolor in its unpredictability. There’s a part to them where the artist cannot fully control how they blend, where the pigment is deposited, etc.
It reminds me how art is not always meant to be so precisely perfect. There is a time and place for precision, but with mediums like watercolor and gouache, it makes for a much more ambient, dreamy feel to the finished pieces when the colors do not fit perfectly inside the lines.

And as a reminder, AI cannot do any of that.
Real art takes soul and imperfection.

As someone who’s practiced many different mediums of artistic storytelling over the years, images generated by AI will never have the same process, the same trial-and-error that real, human-made art includes. Such a big part of what makes art meaningful is that it takes time, skill, and insight. Artists develop their style and ability over time, making mistakes and then growing from them.
Generative intelligence models do not have the capacity to put real emotion and creativity into the images they produce. They are lacking meaning and value. They cheapen what people understand as “art” and are fundamentally bad for creative communities. I’ve made it a personal goal to support real artists with real stories who have honed their skill over years of hard work and passion.
