MORTAL COIL is a new EP by Bluntspeakers, accompanied by artwork and visuals by Ahmed Farük Bas.
Throughout the session, visitors are invited to experience the music alongside a continuous visual journey.

MORTAL COIL moves with an enigmatic energy: immersive and atmospheric. Rooted in the spirit of the ’90s, it pays tribute through mood, texture, and nostalgia, while opening up a more introspective and layered side of Bluntspeakers’ evolving world.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 #𝟱𝟯: 𝗜 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸 opens May 22 at Buro Stedelijk. 🖤

Through a series of materially dark works emerging from the shadows, the exhibition repositions darkness as a generative force—one capable of intervening in the world and leaving its mark. It disrupts binary frameworks that have historically opposed darkness to light, just as they have set Black against white, culture against nature, mind against body, and reason against sensibility. Curated by @ritaouedraogo and Stephanie Noach.

S TATI CA is an imaginative, large-scale landscape by Frederik Molenschot, constructed from aluminum cubes to symbolize how cities can be reshaped in an instant by decisions driven by money and power.

Created for Baanhof and the Rotterdam Design Biennale, Sealander—a steel construction in the form of a shipping container—accompanies the piece. This familiar object highlights the imbalance in global trade, where 90% of goods are transported this way, and 40% of containers travel empty.

Beyond its physical form, Sealander also has a digital presence, featuring human-like figures that move in abstract patterns. These figures are based on Molenschot himself, wearing a motion-capture suit and mimicking the flowing movements of seawater and abstract global infrastructures.

Together, S TATI CA and Sealander reflect the power structures behind global commerce while acknowledging Rotterdam’s pride and resilience as a maritime city.
