Jeans for my mom’s birthday ! Classic 5 pockets jeans, wide leg cut. Used a 13.5oz neppy selvedge denim to sew those. Might be my most “heritage” type of jeans I’ve made. I’m really proud of the craftmanship i put into those and how all the littles details are perfectly matching with each others. Like the lined beltloops matching the wabash used for the pocket bags. First time using that much different colors thread on one pair and i think the result comes out very clean, definitely doing that again in the future ! Also feeling like I’m getting good at sewing hidden rivets backpocket. The back pockets are double chain stitched as well as the coin pocket and the one piece button fly, had to do some weird changes on my chain stitch serger to do this (won’t do it again it was too much to do just to have a chainstitch on those). Cuffs are sewn in place as my mom wanted. The leather tab is engraved with a drawing made by @jerome_titanium that my mom has as a tattoo on her. I made the pattern with the help of a new patterning book i bought and i feel like i can see the difference with the others patterns i made in the past, this one feels more right. Overall really proud of this one as usual, feeling like I’m getting better slowly. 5 POCKETS CLASSIC STRAIGHT CUT JEANS Made a pair of jeans for my best friend’s 18 birthday ! This pair is crafted out of a 12oz japanese selvedge denim. Nothing crazy cuz he wanted something really classic so what’s more classic than a 5 pockets straight cut jeans ? It features some really beautiful f-rim buttons matching with the sanded rivets. Back pockets are embroidered with my personal embroidery and are lined with herringbone cotton. Buttonholes are hand stitched. Belt loops are lined with a marine herringbone bias tape. Raw edges in the inside are covered with the same bias tape used for the belt loops. Overall feeling like I get better each time I finish sewing a pant and I’m really happy with how clean this one came out. LEATHERBACK JEANS (for my dad) Those are an upgraded version of the leatherback jeans i made a while ago for myself. They feature pretty much all the same details but upgraded and with a way cleaner finish. This pair is made out of a really beautiful kind of “horizontal” weft 14.5oz selvedge denim. I’m really proud of some details like the belt loops that are kind of “lined” if i can say that, it’s the second time I use this technique for the belt loops and I think I’m getting better at it ! Another thing about the belt loops is that as you can see all the raw edge of the loops are hidden under the waistband, that’s a detail i saw on a pair of pants of a French brand named @bonnegueule.fr and inspired me. I’m also really proud of the hand-sewn buttonholes that are really really clean ! Still not perfect but getting slightly better at hidden-rivets. Herringbone lining everywhere and brass hardware. The back belt loops have been extended into a hanging loop for my dad to be able to hang his jeans in his closet. The leather tab is engraved with the head of my dad. And you may be wondering what’s the thing with my dad’s beard ? It was clear to me that i wanted to personalize those special jeans for him. I directly thought to his beard. Since I’m a child he almost always been wearing a beard and the few time he thought about shaving it, me and my brother would get really upset. So my dad’s beard is definitely something special to me, a precious linking to my childhood and that’s why I wanted it to be a central element of personalization in this pair. Overall I’m really really proud of this pair not only because it might be the best I’ve sewn yet but also because it is made for someone i love and seeing my dad wear it really makes me happy ! WABASH MESSENGER BAG Nothing much to say about this one, it’s been a while since I made it. Really simple 4 pockets messenger bag made with my usual patterns. Crafted out of a 10oz selvedge wabash fabric and lined with a beautiful cotton herringbone fabric. I used the wrong side of the fabric for the inside of the flap and for the strap to create a sort of contrast. Sanded rivet to reinforce stress points and Union Made button to close the bag flap. As usual buttonholes are hand-stitched. I thought using the other side of the leather for this patch was matching well with the rest of the bag. Nothing more to say about this one, really simple but I’m happy with the result ! SAMPLE PAIR Really simple 5 pockets straight cut jeans. (First time sewing hidden rivets kinda nervous 🫣🫣) It’s kind of a shitty pair I didn’t put that much effort in it because I wanted to test a bunch of new things and also test some modifications I did on my patterns. The new things I tested : - Hidden rivets for the back pockets (still have a lot to learn 😅) - Lined yoke - « Lined » belt buckles, need to perfect this but I think it can be really cool to have this on more jeans ! - Tried a new embroidery for the back pockets, I think it really looks cool and maybe I’ll use it for other jeans ! 12oz Italian selvedge denim. The buttonholes are sewn with my Singer home sewing machine. I used some plain top copper buttons I found a while ago while travelling to Paris. « Union made » copper rivets to renforce tension points. Lined back pockets. Overall even if I tested new things on this pair, I’m not really happy with it, especially because of the selvedge denim I used. I had to add some darts at the knee because (I don’t really know how to explain) but since the fabric wasn’t 100% cotton (so a bit stretchy), the selvedge wasn’t really straight. So weird. This pair also made me realise that I still have a lot to learn and to improve whether it’s in term of pattern making, sewing or technical skills. LEATHER X DENIM MESSENGER BAG Kind of inspired by my last pair of jeans, wanted to sew with some leather again 😝 Made out of the same 14~16oz beautiful neppy denim, the same leather and the same cotton lining I used for my last pair of jeans. Really happy with how it came out ! Especially using a new type of closure for the buttons, was fun to sew ! Union Made copper hardware and raw copper buttons. The only problem I had with this bag is the button placement, I placed them too far from the closure so it make a little kind of “fold”, it doesn’t bother that much and I think that if there’s some weight in the bag it’s okay but yeah it’s the only “imperfection” of this bag. THE LEATHERBACK PANTS Just made a new pair of jeans ! (for me) Crafted out of a really beautiful 14-16oz (not sure) raw nep denim and inspired by the Levi’s 501 straight cut. I designed and developed all the patterns myself. I’m really proud of the final result ! Since I do strongly believe that back pockets are key design components giving true character to a pair of jeans, I’m sooo happy with how the back pockets on those pants came out, especially with the embedded leather stripes ! Those jeans features copper hardware everywhere except for the two front pocket since I was running out of copper buttons unfortunately 😅. All buttonholes are hand-stitched as well as the raw edge of the button fly (hand overlock stitch). It also features a one-piece button fly ! I did also put some natural cotton lining everywhere I could : inside the back pocket, the flap of the back pocket, the buckle back, as well as the waistband. Out seams are bias taped, matching the colour of the coton lining. I do particularly like this little matching detail as it brings some sort of harmony to the overall design. The only problems I had with the conception of this pair was sewing the lined waistband, it was a first for me sewing that type of waistband and I also patterned it straight, but since the waist was kind of curved I had to sew two darts at the back that I managed to hide under the belt buckles, furthermore the buckle back is not symmetrical 😅 Overall I really had fun sewing this pair of jeans from scratch and I think they will be my personal pair for a while ! "THE SWISS BAG" 12oz Italian selvedge denim messenger bag Needed a new bag for school ! Inspired by vintage messenger bags. Really had fun making this piece ! Patterned and designed by me. I found a cool « Swiss » lining for the inside at a thrift store. It features three inside curved pockets with one curved coin pocket. Flat felled seam for the outside seams. Sandwash hardware for the shoulder strap and Union Made button for the bag flap, both directly imported from Japan. The length of the shoulder strap can be adjusted with two sandwashed buckles. My favourite part about this bag might be the leather patch at the back, I love its geometric design and the way it mimics the shape of the bag flap. And of course I’m heavily inspired by the work of @maddixespencer . MY FIRST EVER PAIR OF BAGGY SELVEDGE DENIM It features : - Italian 12oz raw selvedge denim - Double back pocket - « Painter » front pocket lining - Button fly - Flat felled seam - Bias tape finish on raw edges - Hand-sewn button holes - Leather patch at the back (the belt can go trough) Positives points : - First time for me sewing with selvedge denim - Made the pattern myself with my own measurements - First pair of jeans made with my new industrial sewing machine - Pretty happy with how I sewed the jeans overall Negatives points : - I don’t know how but I manage to sew the yoke upside down so the jeans doesn’t fit good at all so it’s not really wearable unfortunately 🫠🫠 - Since I made all the patterns myself there’s a lot of little problems that I need to fix on them before I sew my next pair of pants - Didn’t put the button at the right place on the fly guard 🫠🫠 - Little bit to small for me, I don’t how it happened since I made the pattern with my own measurements I’ll do better next time ! . . . . . #sewing #sew #jeans #baggy #denim #selvedge #selvedgedenim #fashion by @artberrant
