Who is your muse ?
Exhibition ongoing @thecanteennairobi by @artbylulumia

*‘A Muse of One’s Own’* is a curation of works aimed to evoke the female gaze in viewers and open them to the perspectives of and depictions by women artists. The artworks collectively take back power on how women choose to view and portray themselves. We welcome you to explore the global south feminist themes that unravel through the show: womanhood, intimacy, women at leisure, joy, sovereignty, community and more.

*Running through October 31st - November 21st 2026.*
_Opening Reception on Saturday October 31st, 3pm-6pm. (Walk-through: 3.30pm)_
📍The Canteen, Gedi Road, Nairobi (parking available at Lavington Mall).

All works and prints will be available to purchase. by @artbylulumia

Lamu. An island off the Kenyan coast with more donkeys than cars, where dhows still sail on the wind and nobody is in a hurry. 🌊

This is where @artbylulumia paints. Barefoot, on a cement floor, on old dhow sails. Cloth that crossed the ocean, caught the wind for years, and now carries her colours.

Her work is about what we carry with us: ancestry, identity, the stories we lost and the ones that stayed. Faces that look right through you.

Pole pole. Take your time. But which one is looking at you?

Four of Lulu’s paintings are now in our shop as prints, from €25 and up ➡️ Link in bio.
