Artist to Watch: Josh Aronson @jda.usa

Miami-based artist Josh Aronson explores masculinity and landscape through a deeply personal lens — asking what it means to belong.

His work returns to one core question:
what does it take to feel at home — in your body, in a place, in a story that wasn’t written for you?

An artist to keep an eye on.

Artist to Watch: Tianxing Xu @tianxingxu.art

Born in Shanghai and now based in New York, Tianxing Xu builds entire worlds from memory — fragmented, overexposed, and never fully resolved.

His work takes the form of paintings, prints, installations, and books that act like blueprints for an imagined amusement park.

A place that feels familiar, but never quite existed.

Artist to Watch: Jorge Sánchez Di Bello @dibellojorge

Colombian artist Jorge Sánchez Di Bello works between installation, object, and glass — exploring how materials carry memory, history, and political context.

In his work, materials are never neutral.

They transform, reflect, and hold meaning — shaped by research, place, and lived experience.

In this site-specific installation by Michael Sailstorfer (@michaelsailstorfer), the floor is disappearing before our eyes.

Unveiled during Berlin Art Week 2026 (@berlinartweek) at Galerie Judin (@galeriejudin), ‘Pull the Rug’ features 10,000 cobblestones, just like the ones found on the streets of the city. Roughly every 50 seconds, a worker picks up a cobblestone from the gallery floor and inserts it into the chute of a catapult. Behind the wall, the machine fires the stone into another.

By 10 October 2026, the cobblestones will have entirely disappeared from view, each one catapulted into a concealed (for now) back room. The proverbial rug will have been pulled from beneath our feet.

Speaking to Ocula, Sailstorfer explains that the cobblestones reference the violent demonstrations that take place on 1 May each year in Berlin, while the work as whole reflects the instability of our time.

@asteria__archives Lucien Smith (1989–2026) first gained attention with his Rain Paintings, before stepping away from the commercial art world and devoting much of his energy to projects supporting other artists. He later returned to painting, revisiting the Rain Paintings with a renewed sense of freedom. Just weeks before his death at 37, he had created four new works for Delay of Game, an exhibition scheduled at Tripoli Gallery from September 12 to October 12, 2026. His return to the series feels especially poignant in retrospect, a full circle in an artist who spent his career searching for a way to create on his own terms. Francisco Trêpa creates strange, almost-familiar worlds where plants, animals, humans and technology begin to blur.

The Portuguese artist’s sculptures draw on science fiction, biology and the transformative possibilities of materials, giving form to characters that can appear beautiful and unsettling, organic and artificial, all at once.

In our latest New Voices interview, Francisco talks about his fascination with mutation and ambiguity, the unexpected relationships between species, and how gall wasps led him to rethink ideas of parasitism, power and belonging.

What does it mean to exist in between?

For multidisciplinary artist wei @_.wei , Otherness is not simply about being outside, but about the spaces created between identities, places and ways of belonging.

Working across print, objects, video, sound and movement, wei explores Queerness and Foreignness, tracing the relationships between bodies, memory, collective presence and the systems we inhabit.

In our latest New Voices interview, wei speaks about the possibilities of in-betweenness, the vulnerability of materials like felt and wax, and why sound offers a way to explore things that can be difficult to make visible.

Take a closer look at Gordon Matta-Clark’s Day’s End (1975) and the lasting influence of this groundbreaking work.

Decades later, artist David Hammons drew inspiration from Matta-Clark’s intervention for his 2021 public art installation, reflecting the exact location and dimensions of the original Pier 52 shed.

A fascinating connection between two artists, two eras, and one historic site.
