1933 streamline moderne architecture - art deco commercial & residential building somewhere in the coastal paradise of the PNW

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

#progress and a beautiful fall #sunset
The GAF purity cellulose cement retro siding with the customized double wave detail is almost all up over the garage roof. Its hard to fathom its just over seven years since we started. The redesign is engineered around the wet WET weather to improve building performance for the next century. There's a whole lot of 316 stainless in the attachment hardware. The original nails were dust. #artdecoarchitecure #streamlinemoderne #pnwlife by @artdecoredux2

#detailsmatter #CAD #artdeco #GAFwaveyshingles #oldhouselove CAD drawings of the final obvious section of our streamline moderne facade. There's a double wave design detail tied into the front building details. Combined double wave detail height is one course of the dutch lap wood siding. The full cellulose cement shingle is two courses of the cedar dutch lap. Lots of laser alignment happened so that it all comes together in the end. It's wraps the facade like it was planned 95 years ago. Old school craftsmanship. I cut the prepainted shingles un the shop. They were very cooperative and so far, none have cracked, chipped or broken. by @artdecoredux2

Copper hardware for our #mcm #retrokitchen #steelcabinet #boomerang backplate & restored pulls #oldhouselove the original cabinet hardware was chromed & in really poor condition. The stamped steel backplates were beyond rescue. So , because we have a copper thing going on - there's a corner wood burning fireplace with a copper ogee mantle from 1947, 3 copper pendant light fixtures i made and eventually a solid copper counter on the opposite wall niche..... why not copper hardware. Not a rhetorical question, but rather a surrender to similar materials. The finished look exceeds my expectations. Progress is slow, deliberate & incremental. by @artdecoredux2

#MCM #copper #kitchencabinet 1951 steel harmony house #hardware made new copper boomerang backplates and they are all ready to be lacquered... darn its too cold & raining outside.

I shifted the hardware from the original chrome with now rusted chrome backplates to copper because the woodburning fireplace just around the corner in the living room (1947 addition) is naturally patinaed copper. I made three copper pendants almost ready to install & copper REM from an eccliastical metalwork commission (baptismal font) is going to become the counter on the other side of the compact space. The copper makes the detailing flow in the intertwined spaces.

Summer is slipping away #oldhouselove maybe tomorrow i can spray the lacquer by @artdecoredux2

all our plants are sooooo happy this year: pears, asian pears & apples. I still halfway hand pollinated the pears & asian pears. This year mother nature aka the bee squads over pollinated the apples. Every single blossom turned into fruit. I gleened 3.5 lbs of strawberry sized apples and its still over crowded. Another couple of weeks 'til vine ripened harvest happens. Contemplating adding a bareroot frost peach and training it on the fence. Maybe a plum hybrid too. by @artdecoredux2

Finally got this Asian deco vibe dragon cuff off of my bench. the design started out as an element in a large garden "gazoda" - hybrid between a gazebo & a pagoda. The multiple columns were each capped with elegant art deco inspired dragons cit from steel plate. The design was scaled down for jewelry & this is the result . Music is the theme from Godzilla- great movie!! by @artdecoredux2

we have a 1951 Sears Harmony House steel kitchen cabinet that is having the original hardware stylistically updated because we have copper pretty much everywhere around it. original restored woodburning fireplace with a copper & carrera mantle from 1947 that led the way in determining material selection. Then I made custom copper lighting from copper chef bowls for the kitchenette. I had more than I would ever use. Turquoise walls to match my folks custom kitchen table from 1955....and of course, the wicked buffalo plaid floor. Lots of fun mcm theming finally coming together. A shout out to FB marketplace (sinkcabinet from Shoreline), H4H & Strait Flooring for flooring materials, Christopher at AllMetal recycling - all in Port Angeles & SecondUse in Seattle for the boomerang pulls. by @artdecoredux2

Sometimes you just get a #perfectday #smoothsailing #PNWlife #seconduse

Taking the ferries to & from Seattle via Southwork & Fauntleroy in Burien that is my quick escape off the Kitsap peninsula if I need to get building materials for our restoration. The fauntleroy ferry is close behind SeaTac without dealing with crazy city traffic. We scored great old doors, vintage lighting, marmoleum flooring & cabinet hardware. Also a great lunch at #pigfishcafe in oldtowne Burien. by @artdecoredux2
