This is an appreciation post for Glue, my friend Apo's cat who passed away during an insects-hunting injury a couple of days ago.

We only met this cat once but it surely lived up to its name, by instantly being very friendly and gentle.

This drawing, though still work in progress, is from a photograph I took of Glue & Deme, in a moment of warm embrace. The cat's been through some very rough times before she was rescued and cared for by my friend and his associate, who helped her get the needed treatment and surgeries.

She only had one good eye left and I hope I captured its magic.

Rest in peace Glue, and keep catching them bugs between the stars. by @artdelean

I was inspired by one of Ara Güler's photographs of Istanbul so I made this watercolor and gouache painting as a study of light and atmosphere.

Ara Güler, whom I consider one of the greatest photographers ever, (16 August 1928 – 17 October 2018, according to Wikipedia) was a Turkish photojournalist of Armenian descent, nicknamed "the Eye of Istanbul".

There is a full documentary about him and his works on YouTube, and if you're interested I suggest to visit his museum @aragulermuzesi in Istanbul or search and order his books. Writer Orhan Pamuk shared a friendship with the great master and has shown some of his amazing Istanbul photographs in his book, Istanbul. by @artdelean

O, leandrii! (mastercopy/study after Sorolla)
Gouache & pastel on paper
30x40 cm

Today I painted this mastercopy after Joaquin Sorolla's 'Oleanders in The Courtyard of the Sorolla House' from c. 1918 (1st slide) as a study and also as a gift for my friend's parents who love flower gardens.

Although the original Sorolla painting was painted oil on canvas, I decided to paint this copy gouache & pastels on paper, because I wanted it to dry quicker than an oil painting, as we are meeting at the end of this week.

In the 2nd slide, I am blocking in the general shapes with gouache and towards the end I'm overlaying the pastel accents for highlights and some shading.

I'm looking forward to seeing their reaction and I hope to paint it in oil paints as well soon.

If you're interested in Sorolla's paintings feel free to follow or visit the Master's wonderful @museo_sorolla

Thanks

This year's month of May - and especially the 26th - marked the centennial of one of the greatest musicians ever, Miles Davis, and so in his honor I made this portrait after a photograph by Anton Corbijn. by @artdelean
