"INSEGUENDO FERRARI” (Chasing Ferrari) is an extraordinary photographic exhibition that took place during the Formula 1 week of the Canadian Grand Prix, presenting an immersive visual chronicle of racing’s soul.Flavio Mazzi's lens doesn't just capture races or f1 cars; it captures the raw, unfiltered essence of the sport. He takes you behind the closed doors of the paddock, into the frenetic energy of the pit lane, and right beside the intimate, high-stakes moments that define competitive racing. This specific event was a memorable occasion, graced by the presence of prominent motorsport figures such as Joann Villeneuve & racing driver Bertrand Godin. Attendees were captivated by Mazzi's stunning framed photographs, meticulously printed on fine art paper & a documentary projection by Studio Zoetropia, showcasing Formula 1 history from the exhilarating 80's to the present day. The atmosphere was further enhanced by DJ Vedantanaor who curated an excellent musical selection, perfectly complementing the visual journey through the Formula1 golden era.It was like having direct access to a piece of living history, not just historical artifacts; it's about the people who lived and breathed that era, and their presence elevated the entire experience.A few days before the event, I found an old early 2000s Nikon that I hadn't used for practically a decade and decided to give it a try. Flavio Mazzi is a renowned Italian motorsport photographer, celebrated for his remarkable contributions to Formula 1. With a career spanning nearly five decades, beginning in 1979, Mazzi has captured countless Grand Prix races. He immortalized pivotal moments in F1 history, including Ferrari's five world championships, along with glorious photographs of legendary drivers. His extensive portfolio includes iconic shots of Gilles Villeneuve, Didier Pironi, Patrick Tambay, Mario Andretti, Stefan Johansson, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Jean Alesi, Rubens Barrichello, Kimi Räikkönen, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz Jr., Lewis Hamilton…Beyond the track, Mazzi's expertise extended to intimate involvement in exhibitions dedicated to Michael Schumacher's career. He was a constant presence behind the scenes, working closely with Schumacher and the Scuderia Ferrari team during their unparalleled "golden years." In 1994, he established Studio Mazzi in Modena, Italy, a specialized photography studio focusing on both motorsport and corporate assignments, cementing his legacy in the world of visual storytelling.It was an absolute honor to meet Mr. Mazzi and engage in a truly captivating conversation with him. Despite his incredible accomplishments and the iconic figures he's worked alongside, he remains remarkably gentle, kind, and humble.
