From field to frame, the story behind our linen canvases.

For centuries, linen has been the choice of masters. Not by coincidence, but by nature. Strong, refined, and built to last, it carries a texture and resilience that elevates every brushstroke.

We choose linen because it represents the very highest standard. It is a noble material, one that connects the artist not only to their work, but to a long tradition of craftsmanship.

What makes it even more remarkable is how it begins. Flax, the plant behind linen, thrives without artificial intervention. No added chemicals, no fertilizers, only the rhythm of nature. It grows best where climate finds perfect balance: along the North Sea coasts, in Flanders and Northern France, where sun and rain meet in harmony.

In this short film, we take you back to the origin. From the open fields where flax is grown, through harvesting, spinning, and weaving, every step that transforms a simple plant into a surface worthy of art.

With our special thanks to our supplier Libeco for the images. #artelcanvas #belgianlinen #canvaspaintings #masterpiece taken in Rucphen by @artelcanvas

Art Antwerp is a yearly moment where we reconnect with the artistic community, meeting painters, galleries and creators who work with intention, curiosity and craft.
For Artel, these encounters matter.
They remind us why materials should support the vision of the artist, quietly and reliably, from the first idea to the finished work.
Thank you to everyone we met again this year.
Your dedication continues to inspire the world we build our materials for. Video created by @sethproductionart #artelcanvas #professionalartist #artantwerp2025 #fineartmaterials #belgiumartscene taken in Antwerp Expo Jan Van Rijswijcklaan 191 Antwerpen by @artelcanvas

Artists notice what shapes the quality of their work: the tension of the canvas, the precision of every edge, the responsiveness of the surface, and the details that guide each stroke. These elements determine how a painting evolves and how it stands the test of time. At Artel, we engineer our materials to support that level of craft, from the first idea to a work that endures.
