Sunday Lunch at Artelium 🍇

Taking our own advice to spend a Sunday in Sussex, Jude headed to Artelium with her husband for Sunday lunch, wine tasting, great views and delicious meats. What’s not to like?

“It’s always a pleasure to head to the hills on an autumn day especially when the destination is a vineyard in the belly of the South Downs. Harvest has recently finished & the Artelium team have embraced the cosy season.

The Food
Let’s be clear, this isn’t one of those belly-busting roasts where you can’t see the plate. Instead, both roasts were expertly portioned and packed with flavour. Every bite was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The beef brisket, pork fillet and belly were moist and melty, the tatties crisp and delicious, the red cabbage juicy and zingy. A shared pud of chocolate & brown butter mousse was all that was needed for a sweet ending. Artelium’s Sunday roasts change with the seasons, showcasing local growers and producers. The small plates are well worth exploring too if a roast isn’t for you.

The Wine
As Artelium has grown, so has its wine collection. It’s exciting, innovative and really is very good. We chose the five-wine Explorer flight, which guided us expertly from cuvée to red, we learned loads and honestly, they were all great! My surprise favourite was Artefact #7 Motley Wild, a limited-batch white wild ferment that’s gone when it’s gone - fresh, light and wholly drinkable. We saved The Red Mosaic for the roast and, as big red drinkers, we thought it was exceptional - we even brought a bottle home. Shhh.

The Atmosphere
The restaurant at Artelium is so pretty and welcoming. Fresh flowers from the estate, fairy lights, lovely textures and a really friendly team make for a gorgeous experience. Big groups dined alongside couples, while Sunday strollers popped in for a gift, some grabbing a bottle and a couple of glasses to catch the late sun on the terrace. A vineyard stomp is a must to see the beautiful art installations around the grounds - maybe best to do after your big meal.”

The Artelium Kitchen will be crafting beautiful, refined dishes showcasing seasonal ingredients at their finest, each course thoughtfully paired with wines from our Sussex vineyard.

While the team is busy with the final Harvest preparations, here’s a look back at some bottling at the winery last month 🍾

Bottling is an exciting milestone in the journey of every vintage. After months of work in the vineyard and winery, it’s the moment the wine is ready to be put into bottle, marking the next stage of its journey.

It’s a big operation behind the scenes, and a brilliant opportunity for the whole team to get involved on the bottling line.

For us, each vintage tells a story, and while these wines are starting their next chapter in the bottle, the 2026 vintage is getting ready to be picked. Bring on harvest! 🍇
