🐢 Tortuga Race, FIM version: the only race where slow wins

You pull down the line and back up nonstop, and your goal is to make the whole dive last as long as possible. No stopping, no hanging, just constant movement.

No rushing. Short, slow, soft pulls. A loose neck, a quiet mind, and relaxed equalization on the way down, then the same calm pulls on the way up.

It sounds easy until you try it. Your body wants to hurry, and this drill teaches it not to. Slow and relaxed is how you go deep and come back feeling good.

Want to try the turtle race? 🌊

🫁 We now have our own oxygen setup

Why it matters:

1. Faster nitrogen washout

After deep dives or a long series of dives, nitrogen builds up in your tissues. Breathing pure oxygen creates the maximum gradient: no nitrogen in the lungs, plenty in the tissues — so it leaves faster.

This is DCS prevention, and freediving still underestimates it. Taravana was described in pearl divers back in the 1950s, yet DCS is still widely seen as a scuba-only problem.

2. First aid for lung injury

With a lung injury, part of the tissue stops working properly and blood oxygen drops. Breathing 100% O2 keeps saturation at a normal level and takes the load off the body.

3. After a blackout or LMC

Oxygen restores normal saturation faster — clear consciousness comes back sooner. It’s a standard first-aid measure for prolonged hypoxia.

New depth unlocked 🌊

Patient work, beautiful dive, perfect execution. Congratulations @k.tonkikh!

We still have a couple more dives left this trip — let’s see how much deeper we can go.

One of my favorite exercises for building relaxation underwater. Today, for example, it helped an experienced freediver and spearfisher add thirty seconds to his best dive time.

For this exercise you need waves on the surface to lift the buoy. Small waves make it harder; big waves make it easier.

Descend to negative buoyancy (you can have a little overweight) and hang on the rope with your arm extended. When a wave lifts the buoy, the rope jerks upward — and you go with it. At that moment, release your grip and catch the rope again a few centimeters higher. This way you rise to the surface without any effort at all. Keep your eyes half-closed and scan through your body for tension the whole way up.

Depending on your level, you can make it more challenging by first hanging at the bottom until the urge to breathe kicks in.

This exercise teaches you to let go of control, to relax, and to trust the water. Share in the comments whether you’ve tried it before. If not — I highly recommend it.

Open-face breathing in the water is one of possible part of preparing for a dive. Feeling the water on your face helps activate the diving reflex and get you into a state of mind ready to dive.

Share how you like to spend the last minutes before a dive.

Trying something new: a maskless dive with a hands-free eq.

For now maximum depth I tried like that, was around 20m, no problem to go deeper. The hardest part for me now is not allowing air bubbles to go out of my nose (esthetic issue), and at the same time to not allowing water to come in. Next step will be to go head down, but for now, I have to figure out how to not allow water to come in (the only reason why I do it feat first). Any tips?

Meet the sea goldies 🐠

The orange ones are all female. The rare violet ones with the long dorsal spine are males.

And when the male dies, the biggest female becomes him.

Fresh season, fresh gear 🌊

5mm suits go away, 2 and 2.5mm come out — the water is finally warming up. Late season this year, but finally here.

All wetsuit sizes available, 2mm to 5mm — we’ve got you covered whatever the water is doing.

Fins too: short @powerfins.fr and long fins in plastic, fibreglass and carbon — all sizes in stock.

And matching sets — mask, snorkel and weight belt in pink, blue and white. Because looking good underwater is half the fun 💫

Book a session with us and you might be the first person to dive in a brand new equipment.

Big thanks to @molchanovsfreediving — their instructor support made this full refresh possible.

This fish is born with an eye on each side, just like a normal fish. Then one eye migrates across its head, the body flattens, and both eyes end up on top.

Meet the leopard flounder (Bothus pantherinus). Now it lies on its blind side and instantly matches the color and pattern of the bottom, melting into the seabed right in front of you.
