Public art is more than paint on a wall—it’s a call for the community to connect and strive for positive change.

On April 26, #ThrivingTogetherAtlanta unveils its first mural, spearheaded by @nbaf, created by artist @cfluxsing and shaped by Atlanta voices. This mural tells a story of resilience, shared history, and the ongoing movement for equality in health and safety.

If you haven’t had a chance to see The Illest’s interpretation of the Sonia Sanchez-compiled “360 Degrees of Blackness”, you have a chance *THIS* afternoon at 3:15pm at the Auburn Avenue Research Library (@aarl_atl) as part of their Collecting, Researching, & Writing While Black Conference. There will be a talkback following the screening between myself and Ronda Racha Penrice (@rondaracha) - gonna be chatting about the process, the follow through, and all that goodness. ✨👌🏾 I gotta say….what a time this was. 🥹 2019, we were so tapped in. The vision was clear, the spirit was willing, and the body was more than ready. Shout out to the Illest, always and forever. We made something beautiful. #TheIllest #360DegreesOfBlackness #PhyllisIller #AuburnAvenueResearchLibrary #Blackness by @artfluxc

YOU KNOW HOW @phyllis.iller DO FOR BLACK HISTORY... #BlackHistoryBabies 👇🏿
•
By @phyllis.iller
——
Another Black History Month is here and we are super excited to celebrate the 3rd Black History Babies.

Join us on February 24, 2024 for a special afternoon of peace, unity, and Blackness.

Parents, take this as an opportunity to spend some time researching our history with your child/children! They are our future, so they must know our past. ✨
_______

To receive a free portrait, your child should:

1. Dress as a figure from Black History (alive or ancestor)
2. State two facts about their chosen figure.

(Note: We are looking to highlight the ancestors that do not get enough shine. We appreciate the Martins and Malcolms, the Rosas and Harriets- but who else can we celebrate?)

Dassit! OPEN SESSION.

TONIGHT, 6:30PM AT @aarl_atl with @mrrobotodirector and @redclayscholar

Join us this Thursday, August 10th at 6:30 p.m., as The Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History, the Hip-Hop50 ATL Consortium in collaboration with the City of Atlanta’s Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and The African American Film Critics Association will screen the cult classic major motion picture, ATL starring T.I. & Lauren London. The film will be followed by a post-film conversation moderated by Dr. Regina N. Bradley and Director of ATL, Chris Robinson.

ATL is a film about four working-class teenagers who live in an Atlanta neighborhood where hip-hop music rules and the coolest place to hang out is the local roller skating rink. As the friends look forward to new horizons after high school, they face challenges on and off the rink that bring about turning points in their lives.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Chris Robinson started his filmmaking career by shooting music videos for local artists and founded Robot Film Company in 2000. Robinson made his feature film debut with ATL and also directed TV shows such as Real Husbands of Hollywood, The New Edition Story, Black-ish, Grown-ish, Mixed-ish, and American Soul. He also co-produced and directed the pilot episode of Wu-Tang: An American Saga for Hulu. His most recent work is on Peacock TV's Shooting Stars, a film set during LeBron James’s high school years.

Dr. Regina N. Bradley is an alumna Nasir Jones Hip Hop Fellow (Harvard University, Spring 2016) and an Assistant Professor of English and African Diaspora Studies at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. Her expertise and research interests include post-Civil Rights African American literature, Hip Hop culture, race, and the contemporary U.S. South. Dr. Bradley is also the author of Chronicling Stankonia: The Rise of the Hip Hop South. The book explores how Atlanta, GA hip hop duo OutKast influences conversations about the Black American South after the Civil Rights Movement.
