Oakland has reinvented itself after every economic cycle. From shipyards to manufacturing to tech. Three years ago, betting on creatives when others wouldn't felt like swimming against the current.

"Artists don't pay rent on time. You'll regret this," investors warned us.

Today, over 100 creative businesses call ArtHaus Works home as we celebrate our third anniversary.

The skeptics were wrong on every count.

This former H.G. Prince Cannery, built in 1916, represented Oakland's industrial past, but we wanted it to anchor Oakland's creative future. Now it's buzzing with life and delivering returns that exceed expectations. Salons next to tech startups. Artists working alongside nonprofits. Makers collaborating with consultants.

Maria, who keeps this place spotless, told us yesterday: "Everyone here is happy to come to work!" She sees it all: the late nights, the celebrations, the hustle.

From solo practitioners in small workspaces to teams in premium units, everyone finds what they need here:
✔️Conference rooms for big meetings.
✔️Event spaces for launches.
✔️Storage for inventory.
✔️Community areas where deals get made over coffee.

This building has evolved from a fruit canning facility to a hub for cultivating dreams. See it with your own eyes!

Deeply invested in the intersection of food, business and community, meet Daniel Aderaw Yeshiwas, the managing partner of Brundo Spice Company which brings heirloom Ethiopian spices and herbs from Modjo to Oakland. After the success of their award-winning Ethiopian restaurant Cafe Coluccia, a legacy Oakland-based restaurant serving the community for over 30-years, CEO Fetlework Tefferi decided to import heirloom herbs, seeds, and spices from Modjo, Ethiopia.

Learn how ArtHaus Works has helped Brundo Spice Company take their business to the next level. It was our pleasure to watch this small business grow and we cannot wait to see what’s next for Daniel and Bruno Spices!

On Wednesdays at WORKS, we really know how to wine down! 🍷

ArtHaus Jenga, Connect Four, and Chess Board made a big debut while members enjoyed catered charcuterie and a curated seasonal wine selection from a favorite small business of ours, @coconoirwineshop! Member mixers are a great way to connect with other entrepreneurs, small business owners and your creative community.

Watch for more member impromptu evening mixers in the open-air on the ArtHaus deck. The games are on and we’re seeing a summer smack down between champs in the future.

Not every fall color is red and gold.
For this exterior mural at ArtHaus Telegraph, Blaise Danio looked to Berkeley's cooler season, layering blue and green tones into a landscape that feels both grounded and dreamlike. Inspired by shifting light, changing weather, and the natural beauty surrounding the hillside, the piece creates a moment of calm amid the daily movement of city life.

Proof that every season has its own color story.

27 attendees. One intention. A room that held it.

We were grateful to host 𝘗𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘮𝘪 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴: 𝘏𝘦𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 in our movement and yoga studio at ArtHaus Works, an afternoon centered on Pilates, sisterhood, and creating space for the next chapter. Thank you to everyone who brought intention, energy, and a true sense of community into the room.

At ArtHaus Works, we love moments like this. When a space is designed for people, it becomes more than four walls. It becomes a place to reconnect, create, and build something together.

If you are planning a wellness class, a workshop, a photo shoot, or a small gathering, ArtHaus Works studios are available to book by the hour or lease monthly, depending on what you need.

We all screamed for Tucker’s! 🍦
We took a sweet pause from the day with a little help from an Alameda institution. Tucker’s Ice Cream has been part of the community since 1941, when Marshall and Verda Tucker stopped in Alameda on their way south, fell in love with the island community, and decided to put down roots. More than 80 years later, Tucker’s is still locally owned and carrying on its tradition of old-fashioned, full-flavored “Super Creamed” ice cream.

And what better way to savor these last sweet days of summer? We enjoyed scoops of raspberry sorbet, salted caramel, and cookies & cream—with plenty of smiles (and probably a little brain freeze).

It was nice to slow down, catch up, and enjoy a treat together before summer slips away. 🍨☀️

Summer may be signing off, but all that California sunshine went to work.

Across the ArtHaus portfolio, solar systems on 26 buildings help provide more than 1,600 units with lower-cost, solar-powered energy. Here at ArtHaus Works in Oakland, 740 panels have helped cut our building's power bill by 98%.

So on this first day of fall, we're raising the roof to summer—and to practical, lasting ideas that make the places where we live and work more efficient.

Around here, the Sunny Side of the Bay is more than a state of mind.
