We carried HELD down Wilshire Boulevard yesterday and the crowd, the energy, the sheer joy of it all is something we are still floating on. There is a kind of feedback an artist gets from a nice comment online or a kind word at a show, and it matters. But there is nothing quite like standing in the middle of a street with hundreds of people cheering you on while you carry something you built together. That is a feeling words don’t fully reach. Thank you to @lacma for an unforgettable event, to everyone who came out and lined the streets, and to the incredible artists in the parade who made it such a joy to be part of. And to the women of @arthive_la that made HELD real: Armelle @armellesatelier who organized this from the very beginning. “Tears of Joy” 🌙💧 At its center, an eye that sees it all — the iris a soft light blue, the color of my mom’s eyes, the pupil opening into deep blue like sky and stone. Above it, a crescent moon edged in raw amethyst and angel quartz, rough and glittering, exactly the way real growth looks up close. Falling from it — tears. Not metaphorical ones. Literal teardrop pendants, each holding a piece of my life: my sons, my dog Maui, the sunsets and shorelines that ground me. Strung on gold chain, with crystals catching the light between them — the good stuff that shows up between the hard days. I feel everything, fully, out loud. Some might call it too much. I call it the price of a heart that stays open. If you’ve ever been told you’re too much — I hope this piece reminds you that your softness isn’t a flaw. It’s what lets the light in.
