Arthouse Gallery is excited to present Dean Home’s beautiful new exhibition ‘Garden of Flowing Water’ which is now open until October 31. Please join us for our opening celebration & artist talk this Saturday at 3-4:30pm in the gallery. All are welcome!

Drawing from the traditions of Vanitas and Flemish still life painting, Dean Home’s virtuosic compositions celebrate the metaphysical power of objects. Entering the worlds that Home creates is like stumbling into an enigmatic narrative bursting with sensuality and exoticism. Pushing the viewer into an almost cinematic close-up with each artfully arranged collection of objects, Home’s hyper-realistic and expressionistic works provoke a palpable meditation on beauty, mortality and truth and carry with them a cultural currency that transcends time and speaks of a shared humanity.

We are thrilled to share that Melbourne based artist Belinda Fox has been selected as a finalist in the Len Fox Painting Award for her work ‘Thrive III’.

Drawing from her virtuosic skills as a former Master Printer and fusing together profoundly personal and global concerns, Fox’s work lays bare the paradoxes endemic to contemporary human experience. Working in painting, drawing, glass, sculpture, printmaking and collaboration, Fox examines the volatility of our era, excavating the iridescent beauty that flickers below the shadowy surface of conflict and despair. Currently based in Melbourne, Fox presents us with a series in which beauty is a gateway into dense conceptual terrain patchworked with blackness and light, an ‘antidote’ to our polarised epoch; a bridge connecting us through a shared – albeit almost forgotten – humanity.

The Len Fox Painting Award is a biennial acquisitive painting prize and is awarded to a living Australian artist to commemorate the life and work of Emanuel Phillips Fox (1865–1915), the uncle of Len Fox, partner of benefactor Mona Fox.

The exhibition of finalists will be on display at Castlemaine Art Museum from 11 December 2026 – 14 March 2027.

You’re invited! Arthouse Gallery is delighted to present ‘Garden of Flowing Water’ from Melbourne based artist Dean Home. Please join us for the opening celebration & artist talk this Saturday 17 October at 3-4.30pm. All are welcome!

“In Dean Home’s paintings, still life becomes a theatre of memory. Flowers, bowls, stones, shells, brushes and painted vessels gather in sumptuous profusion, yet beneath their abundance lies a profound quietness. These richly layered worlds are at once intimate and expansive, meshing the traditions of still life and landscape to create spaces where objects seem to carry histories beyond their material presence. Home’s compositions are carefully orchestrated, each element placed with a refined sensitivity to scale, light, texture and form, so that the familiar becomes poetic, enigmatic and newly charged.” - Susi Muddiman OAM

‘Garden of Flowing Water’ continues in the gallery until 31 October 2026. Don’t miss it!

Today is the last day to see Samantha Everton’s fabulous exhibition ‘THIRTEEN’. Don’t miss the chance to see the collection all together! We’re open till 5 pm today, so come on down to Rushcutters Bay.

“At the intersection of fantasy and critique, Samantha Everton’s photographs transform childhood wonder into a theatrical stage upon which the anxieties of contemporary life unfold. In her new body of work, ‘THIRTEEN’, Everton creates a poetic meditation on the epidemic of excess inherited by the next generation. Surreal tableaux unfold within nostalgic domestic interiors, where children encounter worlds overflowing with spectacle – objects of desire, abundance, and unease. Beneath their visual splendour lies a deeper interrogation of inheritance: what does it mean to come of age within a culture defined by insatiable consumption?” - Elli Walsh by @arthousegallery

“Everton’s photographs collapse the distinction between the real and the simulated, evoking the philosophical notion of simulacra and simulation. Each image is meticulously staged and captured in-camera, emerging from actual worlds created through props, lighting, people, and a carefully realised vision. In this way, the photographs critique mass production through extraordinary acts of individual making. The artist describes her process as “living and breathing the ideas”: beginning with notebooks, sketches, and collages, her concepts gradually expand into elaborate environments. For ‘THIRTEEN’, her bedroom walls became covered with visual studies, printed material, colours, and forms that she continually revised. Everton recalls how she would wake up, leap out of bed and scribble notes on the walls.” - Elli Walsh, 2026

Its the last few days to catch Samantha Everton’s brilliant collection ‘THIRTEEN’. The last day is Saturday - don’t miss it!

“I’m endlessly inspired by the uninfluenced minds of children in their creative space.  Without the world impressed on them, the freedom of a youthful mind, free of the world’s clutter. This is what makes me grow as an artist and informs the language of my artwork.” Samantha Everton, 2026
