ARTHOUSE on R is proud to present the art exhibition “THE LANGUAGE OF TREES” in our Main Gallery on historic R Street in Sacramento, October 9 through November 9, 2026.  Join us for the opening reception this Second Saturday as we feature the painting and sculpture work of June Steckler, an intuitive painter of abstract, nature inspired artwork. The opening reception, including an opportunity to meet the artist, is Saturday, October 10th from 5:00PM – 8:00PM. THE LANGUAGE OF TREES features June’s lifelong connection to trees. June says, “I’m certain this is in part because images of trees are my first clear visual memory and to that foundational experience, I now have decades of tree study and devotion under my belt.” While her style varies, the through line is consistent: all things botanical, from the out-of-doors, and how she both sees and feels light are her constant muses. In addition to the Gallery Show, ARTHOUSE resident artists will open their studios to the public for Second Saturday, October 10th from 5:00- 8:00 PM. Our final feature in our coverage of ARTHOUSE artists who are participating in Weekend 1 of this year’s Sac Open Studios is with Stefanie Rapoza. Look for her in Studio 13.  Stefanie is a Roseville-based fine artist and creative director who brings vibrant color and joy to interior spaces. With a career spanning over 17 years in high-level branding and marketing, she has traded the constraints of the corporate roadmap for a life lived out loud on the canvas. Her work is a rebellion against the beige norms of society and a sophisticated, high-chroma pursuit of freedom. Stef’s signature style, defined by vibrant color palettes, explores the distinct relationship between raw intuition and the technical precision of her digital-to-analog process. Whether she is executing a meticulously planned large-scale installation or losing herself in an automated flow-state to create an abstract floral, the results are consistently bold and memorable. Continuing our line up of ARTHOUSE artists who are participating in Weekend 1 of Sac Open Studios, we introduce you to Louise McGowan Bezark. You will find her in Studio 12.  Louise is an accomplished artist with works in private collections throughout the US. Her inspirations come from color, texture and shape, from creatures large and small, mineral and animal, and all around the globe.  Her sculptures, from one inch to 20 or more, do not fit any mold of the traditional gourd styles many are most familiar with. Her collections are often confused with clay or glass. The use of Pyro-engraving, carving, inlay, and gold leaf informs color selection and embellishment. Collector comments from around the globe range from “deep and peace-filled” “precious” “inspiring” and celebratory.”  Louise states, “Creating with gourds offers such a diverse range of artistic processes. I can use all or just a fraction of various sizes and shapes of raw gourds in unlimited ways. Their rich organic nature ensures that I am never bored. Working with gourds to create fine art brings me so much joy and always delivers me smack into my creative center.” Most of Louise’s design work begins with what each raw gourd reveals of itself. While she can guide with her accomplished technical skills to further along the process, the gourd ultimately leads the way. Her work has been recognized by the California Gourd Society and the Cal Expo, Fine Arts Division. Continuing our line up of ARTHOUSE artists who are participating in Weekend 1 of Sac Open Studios, we introduce you to Sean Bonito. You will find him in Studio 9.  Sean Bonito is a graphite pencil artist with a strong interest in depicting animals in isolated surroundings, allowing a strong focus on the animal alone. He has always had a strong interest in drawing, continued building his craft at Diablo Valley College, and then earned his Bachelor's degree in Art Studio at UC Davis. He enjoys working with animals and had the opportunity to work in a local wildlife animal refuge. Many of his drawings are the result of this experience.  Sean has exhibited his work in several shows and galleries including Sparrow Gallery, competitions at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center, Embellishments artist Studio in Auburn, CA, and was selected twice for The Richeson75 International. His attention to detail, expressive depiction of his subject matter, and passion for animals have attracted numerous collectors to commission him for their own bespoke artwork. His large-scale work and commissions are in a number of private collections in Northern California and Oregon. Even with the unusual heat here in Sacramento the last couple of days, fall will continue its regularly scheduled programming - we’re pretty sure, anyway. These cheery and bright sunflowers by Cassandra Nguyen Musto are trying to help us transition from hot august nights and tank tops to pumpkin spiced lattes and chunky sweaters. If only the weather would cooperate! You’ll find more of her sunflower collection in her studio during Sac Open Studios and Second Saturday this weekend. Meet ARTHOUSE resident artist, Gary Cederlind. This weekend will be Gary’s first Sac Open Studios here at ARTHOUSE, and you will find him in Studio 8. Gary’s photography journey began in 1962 with the purchase of a plastic Diana camera from the 88 Cent Store. With his photographs, Gary reinterprets what he sees in the world around him and experiments constantly with different techniques, such as double exposures, infrared, black and whites, or composite photography. With these evolving techniques, his work tends toward abstraction of both the natural and man-made world. His goal with his images is to not just convey what the image is, but to also communicate the emotion of a scene and to capture its mystery and wonder.
