Yesterday’s Sotheby’s sale in New York marked a decisive moment for the global art market. Gustav Klimt’s Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer achieved a staggering $236.4 million — setting a new modern-art record and becoming the second most expensive artwork ever sold at auction. This wasn’t just a big number. It was a signal. In a year of mixed macro-sentiment, capital still moves aggressively when true quality surfaces. Ultra-high-net-worth buyers are clearly repositioning into culturally significant, trophy-level assets. The result at Sotheby’s — $706 million across the evening — shows that blue-chip art remains one of the strongest stores of value when markets wobble. Record sales at this level don’t just benefit Klimt collectors; they lift confidence across the entire investment ecosystem. When the top of the market resets, it creates upward pressure on originals and prints by other established names. It also pushes more investors to explore alternative asset classes that have historically held value far better than cash, bonds or traditional equities. At Arthur James Advisory, our Private Sales Department specialises in exactly this space — sourcing museum-calibre masterworks privately and securing investment-grade prints with strong long-term performance profiles. If you’d like curated opportunities aligned with yesterday’s market momentum, send us a message. The tailwinds are real, and smart collectors move early. by @arthurjamesgallery

Our first day of public interviews in London 🎤 exploring the art market through real conversations. by @arthurjamesgallery
An astonishing performance from @banksy Couldn’t have been presented better. The latest chapter in Banksy’s ongoing dialogue with authority: a work unveiled, only to be swiftly boarded up by police. The intervention itself becomes part of the piece — a temporary stage, a moment of theatre in the art market’s most valuable street artist’s career. Collectors remember, scarcity is not just about the work, but the fleeting nature of its existence in public. #Banksy #ArtMarket #PerformanceArt #ContemporaryArt #StreetArt by @arthurjamesgallery
This Week in Banksy. A new mural outside London’s Royal Courts of Justice - a judge, gavel raised, striking down a protester. What we’re seeing is pure Banksy: commentary delivered with a sledgehammer. Whether you agree with the politics or not, the market impact is clear. Every public appearance reminds collectors of the finite pool of authenticated works – and every removal only hardens demand. When the courts try to silence Banksy, the art world listens louder. #banksy by @arthurjamesgallery
