A friend in Spirit - heading into the sunset with my new friend Kai.

44 years ago this weekend Peter proposed to me and we announced it to my parents - we married in August.

Our tradition over the years was to open the island on Mother’s Day weekend. Especially a sweet way to remember his mother too.

2026 Mission accomplished - thanks to dear neighbours.

Four years now. As I write this the loons are calling back and forth in the night.

April 7,2022 - 3 years and still fresh. Forever grateful for the companionship of my cousin Letizia - she came from Italy to keep me company in Peter’s last few days. She was a nurse and her knowledge of the dying process was a great help.

Peter wanted to keep things ‘light’ and in that spirit we took this selfie. Likely makes no sense to others, but was part of our journey.
In this moment Peter was at ease.

2) What I learned from Letizia was that Peter’s ongoing restlessness (terminal agitation) was normal in the last few days of life. Difficult to observe, but helpful knowing nothing could be done.

As difficult as these days were I am comforted in knowing Peter had his deep wishes honoured - to be at home, enjoying being with family and friends in those last few weeks. by @artisticendeavours

One week to go - 3 years ago these lads came by to help lift Peter from one bed to a new bed to relieve the pressure pojnts on his body.

They laughed together, noshed on nibbles, helped Peter attempt to stand numerous more times. It proved to be Pete’s last day of trying. The next day he refused food and meds, and so the ending began. Forever grateful for this last happy day.
