I’ve always wanted to make a dystopian movie poster key art. I just needed the right person for it and I found it in this absolute gem of a human @martinarodcai . Serendipity is real. Martina welcomed me and E. with open arms and an open heart when we came to the karaoke at @insideouttheatrecompany We didn’t know anybody and she just embraced us as one of their own. For that, Martina, I will be forever grateful. Your kindness will take you far in this world. I like to reward kindness and I thought this shoot was the perfect opportunity to do just that. Thank you for coming along on this wild ride and going with the flow.

I shot on a sepia seamless background to emulate the colors of a futuristic desert using a gel on the flash to simulate the warm light. I composited the portrait in Photoshop with a landscape image I took in Aragon, Spain. It was truly out of this world and it’s where I got the inspiration for the name of my movie and my character. This is heavily inspired by such films and tv shows as Furiosa, Dune, His Dark Materials, The 100, Yellowjackets, The Nevers, and many more. What do you think?

I made the scarf by up-cycling and cutting up and braiding a bunch of thrifted tee shirts, the vest I made for a Star Wars shoot last year using a sewing pattern from @patterncouture_ Tee shirt was thrifted, the ties on her braids were made from leather remnants and the arm wraps are strips of fabric I dipped in a diluted mix of water and brown acrylic paint.

I took this on my trusty Nikon Z8 using 2 off camera Godox lights with orange gels, to keep with the dystopian theme and look.

Coca-Cola: Taste the Renaissance: Here is another batch of my own personal concept for a Coke campaign. I wanted to challenge myself to create a full blown “pretend” ad from scratch. These images are supposed to be viewed as diptychs, with one portrait and one group photo per pair. You can read more about my process in my previous post. This shoot is a true labor a love and a dream come true to actually achieve. Especially because many of the things I made with my own hands. Being a granddaughter of a foreman and carpenter I have always appreciated the craft and satisfaction of building things by hand, callouses and all. I forgot to thank @marisa.kraft for sending me the blueprints to make the movie flats on my own, and Tim for his insight, couldn’t have done that without you guys!

Coca-Cola: Taste the Renaissance: My own personal concept for a Coke campaign. I wanted to challenge myself to create a full blown “pretend” ad from scratch. I got the idea back in January of this year. It took a very long time (around 5 months) for everything to come together but it was worth it! I wanted to posit the idea that Coca Cola is so good it would have been enjoyed even in the Renaissance. My main inspiration is the beautiful work by Dirck Hals (1591 - 1656) There is no photoshop trickery involved, everything is in camera, bubbles, condensation, ice, all of it! I built the walls from scratch by myself out of 2by4s and MDF panels. I also made the ruff collars. The backdrops, table coverings, and chairs, are all thrifted. I cannot thank my daughter and friends enough for stepping up and taking on this enormous challenge with me. @bachifrost , without your help this would not be possible. Thank you for sourcing the costumes with me, thank you for the tips on how to dilute the drinks so they would photograph better and have MORE bubbles! Thank you for your incredible eye for styling and for being the best assistant! @nanitamontero , thank you for stepping in when I needed you the most my friend and bringing your wonderful kids as my models, and for helping out behind the scenes. @motimalszoo , @laranopara , you guys truly rock I could NOT have done this without you! Love you to pieces. @artisticfxnt , thank you for bringing my vision to life with your incredible makeup skills! @sesh3502 thank you for letting us borrow your gorgeous costumes.
