What can already be said about Dior Homme Parfum that hasn't already been said?

For those who haven't smelt this beautiful iris perfume, it has Florentine Iris which has more alpha irones than Iris Germanica and usually reads as fluffier, more buttery. There's also orange, which gives a bit of a tartness to it, sandalwood, leather, rose, cedar and ambrette. I don't perceive rose in here but the rest of the materials balance out the buttery orris butter with leather and smooth sandalwood.

Iris Ensata by @_floriography is a new favourite iris this summer. Iris Ensata, the flower, is also known as the Japanese water iris, found in China, Japan, and Korean across marshy land and appears in the middle of summer.

Jo Shaw, the perfumer behind this brilliant perfume house, created this perfume inspired by the irises found across Asia as a scent to curate her own wedding as it is her favourite flower. The notes of this scent are iris, galbanum, sichuan peppers, ink, violet leaf, cedarwood, amber and paper. She is a perfumer from Hong Kong and I was eager to try her creations when I saw she had so elegantly captured my favourite perfume material in bottle form.

Though Iris Ensata is inspired by Guerlain's L'heure Bleu, it is by no means beholden to it, if anything there is a reverence for the classic perfume that I can feel throughout the DNA of the composition, like a note of love, yet, this perfume has its own strong identity.

The perfume opens with a deeply rooty orris paired with midtones of galbanum - classic right from the start! Rooty, vegetal iris feels like it was plucked straight from a pond, it's cooling, the green notes of galbanum segue effortlessly into dry paper with an inky web criss crossing throughout the composition.

What's wonderful about this perfume is that even with the classical materials it never feels dated, it's perfect in this heatwave and reads as modern with the notes of violet leaf and ink. I feel as though I am reading a poet's masterpiece about the nature of irises.

Besides all that, the bottle and packaging is a masterpiece! Look at all the details and beautiful curving lines of the bottle, the golden cap with the Art Nouveau inspired iris art was enough for me to desire this perfume even before smelling the scent, and the bottle is elegant and feels wonderful to hold.

I think it's quite rare to see this much care put into a perfume packaging and I am looking forward to owning more bottles from this perfume house as the collection is stunning.

This perfume is perfect for the high heat we've been having in Europe, today it's 36C and I needed something to cut the heat. Powerful notes of guava and coconut, lime, red mandarin, mint, black currant,, musk, vetiver and ambergris: what more could you ask for from a perfume that aims to represent an island paradise?!

I smell primarily guava and coconut, a sharp blast of mint and musks cools you down, never overtaking the composition, the perfect addition to highlight the mainstars of the show while this perfume lasts on me all day.
This scent is beautiful, and I love to wear it in the summer.

Gris Dior
An ethereal perfume that is at one part heady and impossible to describe in exacting detail as the marvellously blended synthetics feel diaphanous and pulsating.

My girlfriend wears this and on her skin it smells like the sexiest perfume in the world. It’s completely different on paper. This perfume needs the human canvas to fully blossom in a way that I haven’t experienced in other perfumes.

On a tester strip, I filed away this perfume as an overrated one in the Privé lineup, a musky prescence with an illusion of a rose but on skin it becomes deep and irresistible. It does the name justice; this feels like a desaturated rose, slowly draining of all it’s colour until it turns into a dusty pink. An elegant purple dress robbed of it’s chroma. An aura that magnifies around the wearer. It’s a rose-flame ignited by your skin, musk burgeoning in strength.

Kudos to Francois Demachy, I have a new found respect for his work.

Saturday at Pitti!

What an incredible day! My favourite part is the conversations with friends, old and new. People who I have only met through Instagram and finally now in person, new connections, friends from previous perfume conventions; just a wonderful place to be a perfume loving human.

The 20th anniversary of @andy_tauer surpassed expectations! Like night had fallen on the Desert.

Meeting Dennis from @dsolperfumes was like placing a bookend on a shelf of beloved literature, it feels like a chapter in my perfume journey has ended and the next one is unraveling.

Seeing @hiram_green is always a pleasure.

The new @filippo_sorcinelli scent was very good, I love me an iris-forward scent .

Trying the full @genyumfragrances line was memorable.

Thank you @jennycai__ for being my cinema crew today. 😘

Notes of gorse and centaury.
Heart: white chestnut, olive and hornbeam.
Base: larch and mustard.

This has to be one of the most unusual and wearable perfumes in recent memory.

It holds the echos of a manor home, littered with eccentricities from every corner of the world.

I found myself wanting to wear it repeatedly to better understand it.

At its core, it is the soul of old wood with refreshing notes and herbaceous notes growing along its weathered frame. The mustard leaf is a challenging note that threatens to become overbearing for the first half hour but never overtakes, fortunately (once during my crazier days of youth I made a green juice using mustard leaf and couldn't get through it).

The hero of this perfume is the gorse; cuts the depths of this rich perfume with citrusy and coconut aspects, the olive is refreshing and also has a citric nuance. I cannot express in words how beautiful the woody aromatic depths of this creation.

Found a new favourite!

A Song for the Rose by @gucci

I found it incredibly pleasing to my senses, just relaxing and familiar. It was like stepping into the embrace of a blooming rose, beautifully floral and delicate whilst also being slightly reminiscent of raspberry candy, an almost imperceptible musky wood playing backbone to the rose petals.

Simple but I kept coming back to it, and it was housed in this beautiful glass bottle thst totally suited the perfume.

Slowly I'm discovering that the Alchemist Garden needs a second chance, they were hard to appreciate in the boutique amongst all the other scents.

Dugg
Meaning Dew is my most worn bottle of Naturales. It’s a citrus herbal scent that holds true to its name and brings one to reminisce on the morning droplets left on leaves from condensation or an overnight shower. It’s at-once fresh and citrus with a touch of green to take you to that scent garden. Bergamot and artemisia, paired with osmanthus allows the perfume to becomes a touch creamy as well, though it’s incredibly well-balanced leaning in favour of citrus freshness, that orange floral fattiness cut with a green vetiver brings this perfume into perfection. There’s nothing I would change about this perfume and that isn’t something I can say about most perfumes nowadays.

What is incredibly impressive is that Rasa Gundersen achieved this all with natural materials; blending raw materials is an art that most perfumers aren’t brave enough to take on. Kudos to Rasa, another incredible work of art from her collection.

The sillage is moderate and the perfume lasts 3-4 hours on me. It’s incredibly refreshing in the summer heat and has been keeping me cooler, mentally at least, in the 40C Florentine sun.
