ITā€™S TIME FOR MODOU GUEYE! Modou Gueye (Senegal) is among a compelling generation of contemporary African artists redefining portraiture through emotion, memory, and chromatic intensity. Now based in Barcelona, his practice has gained increasing international recognition through exhibitions including Dakā€™Art Biennale 2024 and AfriKin Art Fair during Miami Art Week / Art Basel Miami Beach. His journey across geographies and cultures has profoundly shaped an artistic vocabulary grounded in empathy, resilience, and human connection. For Gueye, portraiture extends beyond representation. His figures inhabit richly patterned and luminous environments where color becomes psychological space and identity unfolds through presence rather than narrative certainty. Each canvas invites contemplation of dignity, vulnerability, and the complexity of lived experience. Cervello Artistico is back after a long summer break. Our first interview is with Senegalese painter and model Modou GueĢ€ye, recorded at El Santo @elsantostore in Barcelona, where he brought together his two creative worlds through a collaboration with the brand. We spoke about his journey from Senegal to Togo and now Barcelona, the influence of African cultural heritage on his work, and how colour, emotion, and human connection shape the stories he tells through painting. Modouā€™s work is a vibrant exploration of beauty, emotion, and existence, bringing together the traditions that shaped him with the experiences of the life he is building today. Modou, thanks for filling our casa with so much beauty! Last Thursday we opened an art exhibit at our Flagship store in Barcelona. I met Modou at an event. His energy captivated me.
