Sometimes as artists an interaction with our audience can give them hope they didn't have before. We rarely get to see the ripple our work creates, we put a piece into the world and let it go, not knowing whose life it might quietly touch but, sometimes just one person feeling seen, feeling hopeful again, is enough to change the course of their life and that one life goes on to touch many others. That's the quiet power we carry as artists. I am a national treasure. You are a national treasure.

Some people carry movement differently. Not in their footsteps, but in their posture, their gaze, the quiet certainty with which they occupy a space. When I mused Kweku Dade (@kwekudade) for this piece, I was struck by that presence. A demeanor that seemed shaped by places, experiences, and journeys both taken and imagined.

This piece is showing at @Jewishmuseummaine. Exhibition is open till June 25th, 2026.

Title: The patrons
Dimensions: 90cm×120cm
Medium: Charcoal and oil on canvas

What stays when everything else is stripped away? This piece, titled "The Patrons," is part of a limited series exploring identity. The enduring parts of ourselves we carry wherever we go. In this painting, I portray the quiet, unbreakable bonds of support. Those relationships that never fade, the friendships that shape us, and the people who walk with us, even in silence, wherever life leads.

Abdur Rahman Muhammad whose evocative oil paintings serve as a visual archive of the displacement and resilience inherent in the migrant experience.

A self-taught artist from Ghana, Abdur draws deeply from personal experiences and the storytelling traditions of hip hop to capture the aspirations of a generation in search of new horizons.

His practice is defined by a unique visual dialogue, contrasting three-dimensional human figures with detailed, flat backgrounds to explore the human side of movement, not just the physical act of travel, but the emotional weight of what is carried across border.

Abdur honors the memories and tenacity of those in transition, offering a profound reflection on identity and the enduring sense of belonging.

Old Blue (triptych)

This painting is the first in a triptych exploring the nuances of identity. Inspired by the rigid, standardized nature of passport photos, the composition replaces the neutral backdrop with a 'Ghana must go' pattern, a symbol of displacement and migration. It also draws on a story shared with me during a studio visit, where individuals were asked to strip back their appearance for identification photos. Through this, the work questions what remains of identity when self-expression is reduced to conformity.

Born again, but I didn't change my ways. I learnt myself deeper through nights and days. Embraced the good, bad, beautiful, and ugly too. Revived the parts I need to make it through. Lost some friends, but made a few. Ambition remains, the vision stays true. So much to see, so much to do. How big this story gets, the only thing left to prove.
