Final Day of the Mokulito Workshop with Tadashi Kobayashi — Exhibition & Certificate Ceremony

Today marks the final day of our Mokulito Workshop, led by Japanese master printmaker Tadashi Kobayashi, with Ariadna Abadal as Head of the Printmaking Studio and Vėjūnė Leškytė as Studio Assistant.

After an intensive period of learning, experimentation and creative exchange, the workshop concludes with a final exhibition showcasing the prints created by the participating artists, followed by the presentation of their course certificates.

Throughout the workshop, the artists have explored the fascinating possibilities of Mokulito, from preparing and drawing on plywood plates to developing and printing their images.

First Prints from the Mokulito Workshop with Tadashi Kobayashi!

Today, we begin printing the first Mokulito plates created by the participants in our workshop led by Japanese master printmaker Tadashi Kobayashi, with Ariadna Abadal as Head of the Printmaking Studio and Vėjūnė Leškytė as Studio Assistant.

After preparing the plywood plates and experimenting with different drawing materials, the artists are now discovering how their images come to life through the printing process.

An exciting moment of experimentation and discovery as the first Mokulito prints emerge at Art Print Residence.

First Day of the Mokulito Workshop with Tadashi Kobayashi!

Today marked the beginning of our Mokulito Workshop, led by Japanese master printmaker Tadashi Kobayashi, with Ariadna Abadal as Head of the Printmaking Studio and Vėjūnė Leškytė as Studio Assistant.

During this first session, participants began by preparing their plywood plates and experimenting with drawing using a variety of materials and products, exploring different marks, textures and graphic possibilities.

An exciting first step into the fascinating world of Mokulito, where lithographic principles meet the unique characteristics of wood.

Welcome Tadashi Kobayashi to Art Print Residence! 🇯🇵

We are delighted to welcome Tadashi Kobayashi, who arrived today from Japan to lead his special Mokulito Workshop, starting next Monday at Art Print Residence.

Having studied under the inventor of the Mokulito technique, Kobayashi is recognised as one of the pioneering artists who helped introduce and promote this innovative printmaking process internationally, beyond Japan.

His workshop will offer a unique opportunity to explore contemporary approaches to Mokulito, combining traditional knowledge, technical experimentation, and artistic expression.

We are honoured to have him with us and look forward to an inspiring week of learning, creativity, and artistic exchange!

Martina Steinbacher — Final Exhibition & Certificate Presentation

Today marks the final day of Martina Steinbacher’s Hard Ground Etching and Aquatint Workshop at Art Print Residence, an on-demand course led by Ariadna Abadal.

Throughout the workshop, Martina has explored the expressive possibilities of etching and aquatint, creating and printing a series of images using each technique individually as well as combining them on the same plates.

She has also incorporated chine collé, introducing delicate layers of paper that enrich her prints with additional textures, colours, and subtle tonal variations.

The workshop concludes today with a final exhibition of her prints and the presentation of her certificate, celebrating a rewarding period of technical exploration, experimentation, and artistic development.

Congratulations, Martina! It has been a pleasure having you at Art Print Residence.

Sallie Harker — Exploring Caribbean Colours through Woodcut

At Art Print Residence, Sallie Harker has been experimenting with different colour combinations to capture the vibrant atmosphere, light, and spirit of the Caribbean.

Working with two woodcut plates, one of them created using the jigsaw technique, she has produced a series of trial prints, exploring how different colours interact and transform the final image.

Through this process of experimentation, Sallie is refining her colour palette and evaluating the results before selecting the final combination for her woodcut edition.

A fascinating exploration of colour, layered printing, and the expressive possibilities of the jigsaw woodcut technique.

During the first days of her workshop at Art Print Residence, Martina Steinbacher has begun exploring the expressive possibilities of intaglio etching. Working with etching needles, roulettes, and multiline tools, she is developing a rich vocabulary of textures, marks, and depth.

By experimenting with different biting times, Martina is investigating how the depth and character of each etched line can be shaped and refined directly on the plate.

With guidance from Ariadna Abadal, the plates have been inked and printed on Fabriano paper, bringing the process to life through a series of impressions that highlight the tactile and graphic qualities of traditional etching.

Sharon Epstein has printed her Mokulito plates on a selection of papers, including Hahnemühle, Gampi, Mitsumata Grey, Kozo Grey, and Mitsumata White.

She is now using these prints to create collages on Hahnemühle paper, layering the different Japanese papers and taking advantage of their delicate transparencies. The overlapping printed images, textures, and tonal variations create new compositions in which the qualities of each paper become an essential part of the work.

A beautiful continuation of her Mokulito project, exploring the dialogue between print, collage, transparency, and Japanese paper.
