It's a deep blue day (I mean, cloudy) in the desert and your presence is requested for tonight's art party! DEEP BLUE DAY: Featuring the transcendental art of Celia Reed, these oil paintings seem to levitate from the light within. "I was born in Egypt in 1951, and grew up in a small village in the county of Somerset in Southwest England. I have always considered my parents to be my biggest influence in the visual arts by what they surrounded themselves with and spoke of. In 1975 I moved to the Southwestern USA and have lived in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. I have worked as a house painter, restorer, builder, gardener, and restaurant cook... but painting was always my first interest and has remained so. Self taught... I have painted as long as I can remember. I paint everything interesting to me. Natural forms, landscapes, skies. trees, plants, rocks, seashells, creatures, all species, figures in motion, dancers, acrobats, and askers. Room interiors and mud-shaped architecture. Dreams, moods, and challenging life situations in metaphor have all provided inspiration. I have used the hand since childhood's a device to contain a special object. My preferred paint is oil. I use some of the smallest brushes available and add layer upon layer of thinned paint. Some paintings go on for years before I feel they're done." ~ Celia Reed. Meet Celia tonight 6-9 pm at 2nd Saturday Art Walk! So much happening at @artqueen_jt , I can't even begin to list it all. Just know it'll be a guaranteed good time in the hi-dez! by @artqueen_jt
𝓓𝓮𝓮𝓹 𝓑𝓵𝓾𝓮 𝓓𝓪𝔂 opens at 𝙻𝚊 𝙼𝚊𝚝𝚊𝚍𝚘𝚛𝚊, this Saturday from 6-9 pm, featuring work from Colleena Hake + Celia Reed ⋆｡𖦹 ˚ 𓇼 ˚｡⋆ ABOUT COLLEENA: Colleena Hake is an artist, curator, and owner of La Matadora Gallery in downtown Joshua Tree, which she opened in 2017 as an alternative space for art and performance. Her multidisciplinary practice includes BENEDITOS, handmade cabin blessings combining vintage wrought-iron trivets, protective amulets, Swarovski-bedazzled horseshoes, and original poem-prayers, as well as various performance art naritives. For Colleena, curating is another creative act, bringing humor, edge, and the unexpected to a space built to be welcoming and supportive while, in La Matadora’s words, “Taking a Stab at showing post-mod art and cutting through some bullshit.” ABOUT CELIA: Celia Reed was born in Egypt in 1951. “I grew up in a small village in the county of Somerset in Southwest England. I have always considered my parents to be my biggest influence in the visual arts by what they surrounded themselves with and spoke of. In 1975 I moved to the South Western USA and have lived in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. I use some of the smallest brushes available and add layer upon layer of thinned paint. Some paintings go on for years before I feel they’re done. Sometimes painting is finished in a week. I work on many canvases at the same time - details defined, depth increased, gradually.” by @artqueen_jt

Joe Alvarez is first and forever a painter—his bold, emotional artwork sets the tone for everything he creates. In recent years, his practice has expanded to include sewn sculptures, appliqué jackets, and fabric-based folk art. 🄴🄰🅃 🅃🄷🄴 🄴🄻🄸🅃🄴 opens at ᑕOYOTE ᒪITTᒪE on Saturday evening from 5-9 pm, featuring work by Tonya Van Parys ⋆｡°✩ Tonya Van Parys is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and co-owner of Coyote Little, an independent contemporary art gallery in Joshua Tree. A professional artist for more than 30 years, Van Parys has worked across painting, photography, illustration, tattooing, and other mediums. Her work is bold, colorful, and often confrontational, combining symbolism, commercial imagery, and pointed text with humor and social commentary. Founded as an alternative to the traditional gallery model, Coyote Little champions emerging and established artists alike while questioning the gatekeeping, financial barriers, and unwritten rules that can determine who gets access to the art world. #joshuatree #joshuatreeartists #supportlocalbusiness #supportlocalartists #morongobasin by @artqueen_jt
