Jabunik Rukhwa ·
Tharu Adibasi Jhumra 2026
Lalta Chaudhary & Somati Tharu

taken in Dang valley by @artreenepal

(Re)introducing our 2025–2027 Jane Lombard Prize for Art and Social Justice recipient and fellows!

The VLC Forum 2026 kicks off in two weeks, October 9 & 10. We’re excited to gather with artist Rosana Paulino (@rosanapaulino.oficial)—recipient of the VLC’s 2025–2027 Jane Lombard Prize—along with the Jane Lombard Fellows, the prize’s extraordinary finalists: ArTree Nepal (@artreenepal), Stephanie Dinkins (@stephanie.dinkins), Jason Edward Lewis (@abundantintelligences), and Jenna Sutela (@jennasutela).

Launched in 2012, the Jane Lombard Prize for Art and Social Justice is an international award that honors outstanding achievements in art and politics. It recognizes experienced artists for projects that engage with political themes and advances social justice in profound and visionary ways.

At the VLC Forum 2026—organized under our two-year focus theme, 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦—the artists share their prize-nominated projects:

▪️Rosana Paulino’s prize-winning artist book, ¿𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵ó𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭?, anchors her solo exhibition of the same name. Presented by the VLC Oct 9–Nov 1 at The New School, the exhibition traces Paulino’s critical examinations of the entanglements between science, race, knowledge, and power.

▪️ArTree Nepal’sTikā Chedna Angana highlights Indigenous tattooing practices and embodied knowledge in Nepal.

▪️Stephanie Dinkins’s Conversations with Bina48, an ongoing exchange with the social robot Bina48, explores technological future histories, Afro-now-ism, and more-than-human knowledge.

▪️Jason Edward Lewis is co-founder of Abundant Intelligences, an Indigenous-led research program foregrounding anticolonial approaches to technology.

▪️Jenna Sutela’s nimiia cétiï brings together biological organisms and neural networks to imagine new forms of language and relation.

Meet the artists in person during the VLC Forum at The New School, or join us in the livestream. Visit the link in our bio for details and registration.

Kala Kulo, Nepal @kalaxkulo

Founded in 2019 in Kathmandu, Kala Kulo is a collectively run space that serves as a platform for research, historiography, and collaborative experimentation within contemporary art. Through interdisciplinary approaches spanning archives, fieldwork, and community-based projects, activities often centre around how knowledge and artistic practice are produced, circulated, and cared for; with particular attention to matters that often escape formal records.

Artree Nepal @artreenepal

Formed between 2012 and 2013 in the aftermath of Nepal’s People’s War and anti-monarchical protests, this collective features five artists from different Indigenous communities: Hit Man Gurung (Tamu), Lavkant Chaudhary (Tharu), Mekh Limbu (Yakthung), Sheelasha Rajbhandari (Newa), and Subas Tamang (Tamang).ArTree serves as a space to voice anxieties of non-belonging, make sense of Indigeneity, and reshape written history. Rooted in reclamation and the celebration of marginalized identities, the collective questions dominant narratives to imagine alternative ways of creating.

Tika Chedna Angana

An ongoing research initiative translating to “A Garden of Body Markings.” Known as tika, leela, or godana, these Indigenous practices merge body, art, and ecology—where history is preserved in songs, movements, and memories. In 2024, the initiative gathered Indigenous Tharu artists from the Nepal-India borderlands for a pedagogical exchange on marking traditions. This gathering serves as a living archive and continuation of oral traditions, opening up space to speculate on embodied knowledge systems and cultural restitution. by @artreenepal

💥Ankündigung! Sonntag 20.09.2026💥

🇳🇵✊🏾NACH DER ÜBERSCHWEMMUNG: SPENDENAKTION FÜR NEPAL✊🏾🇳🇵

Sonntag, 20.09.2026 | 16:00 Uhr | @GelisPark, Wedding , Berlin (DM for location)

📣 Aufruf: https://www.instagram.com/p/DdbIZWxCF1P/ - @gelispark

#b2009 #Nepal #Solidarity
