It‘s Leo Season 🦁♌️Leo was one of the earliest recognized constellations. There‘s archaeological evidence that the Mesopotamians had a similar constellation as early as 4000 BCE! In Babylonian astronomy, there‘s a „Great Lion“ while the Persians, the Turks, the Syrians, the Jews and the Indians all knew a constellation by a name in their mother tongue, all meaning „lion“.In ancient Greece it represented the Nemean Lion killed by the mythical Greek hero Heracles as one of his twelve labors. In the lion’s dark cave, Heracles first stunned the beast with his club and then killed it by strangling it with his bare hands.After slaying the lion, he skinned it with one of its own claws making the lion‘s skin one of Heracles‘ major attributes in ancient art. The constellation was created by Zeus in commemoration of his son‘s completion of his first labour.Leo is a bold, charismatic fire sign ruled by the Sun. According to popular tradition, people born under this sign are known for their generosity and tenacity. They‘re also characterised by a strong sense of pride and a talent for love as well as self confidence. They are said to be born leaders.According to medieval astrology, Leo season is a good time for short-term projects, sending messages and planting trees, and a bad time for bathing, bloodletting from the arms and building new houses.Isn’t it interesting that astrology and the zodiac signs have been significant in different eras and across different cultures? by @arts.e.facts

I love that green is the main color in that pile of books💚📚Unfortunately I have a hard time reading lately. I‘m trying to get through that one book that‘s not catching me so far but then I‘m looking forward to the new ones waiting already! First, the red head garment caught my eye. Then I wondered what the cloth in his hand meant.This portrait in a three-quarter view of an unknown, fashionably dressed Florentine patrician was an innovative style of portraiture at that time.It was probably painted on the occasion of his engagement, the cloth wrapped around his right hand documenting a pledge of fidelity.Also, we sometimes tend to think the unnatural colors of for example the skin were intentionally used back then but in this case, as well as in many others, the removal of the top layer of paint explains the greenish colour of the skin.🖼️ Portrait of a Young Man, ca. 1465/70👨‍🎨 Florentinischer Maler (Francesco Botticini?)📍Alte Pinakothek, Munich @pinakotheken by @arts.e.facts

New Herrenchiemsee Palace 👑The palace was erected from 1878 onwards based on the model of Versailles. It was the largest building project by King Ludwig II of Bavaria but remained incomplete when the king died in 1886.The most impressive part: the Latona Fountain, also a copy of the one in Versailles. On the top tier is a statue of the goddess Latona und her twin children Artemis and Apoll. The myth depicted is best told by Ovid in his Metamorphoses. The children‘s father was Zeus which incurred the hatred of his consort Hera. She forbid any mortals to give hospatility to Latona and her children, who were forced to wonder the earth fleeing Hera‘s persecution until they reached Lycia. The thirsty Latona drank from a local pond until the lycian farmers waded into the water and kicked up the mud from the bottom of the pond so that the water was undrinkable. Enraged, Latona cursed the Lycians to live in their pond forever, turning them into frogs. The sculptures on this fountain show some Lycians with hands or heads of frogs, visualising the transformation.⛲️In 2025 the palace and its garden was designated as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.Fun fact: the costs for the New Palace were more than the total construction cost of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein Castle together!🏰📍On Herreninsel the largest island on Lake Chiemsee in southern Bavaria, Germany.@schloesserverwaltung.bayern by @arts.e.facts

Cancer season 🦀♋️In greek mythology, Cancer (or Carcinus, the Crab) was a giant crab that inhabited the lagoon of Lerna near the east coast of the Peloponnesus. During the second of Heracles’ twelve labours, the giant crab came to the aid of the Hydra and attacked the greek hero at Hera’s behest.It bit him on his foot and the enraged Heracles killed it in the end. In gratitude for its loyalty, Hera turned Cancer into a constellation and put it in the sky as one of the twelve zodiac signs.💫Whenever Cancer is depicted in the Heracles myth, it mostly looks like a crab or a crayfish/lobster.🦀Divine assosciations with the zodiac Cancer in Renaissance astrology are Diana/Luna, goddesses that represent the moon, Cancer‘s ruling planet.🌙(yes I do love it since I‘m a cancer and Diana is my favorite goddess)Historically it‘s one of the guardians of the italian city of Verona.In medieval astrology, Cancer season was considered the ideal time for fighting, mowing and harvesting - but a terrible time for building houses, planting trees or performing tasks involving fire.🔥Today Cancers are believed to be devoted, passionate and stubborn. They‘re deeply domestic & love creating cozy safe spaces. As a highly intuitive sign, they absorb the energies in a room effortlessly & offer emotional support easily.But like the crab, Cancers tend to have a hard, protective exterior. 🤍🩰🦢🧚‍♀️The Belvedere in Vienna, now one of Austria‘s major art museums.Built as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, the Belvedere complex was designed principally by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and completed in the early eighteenth century.In 1719 Gaetano Fanti, an italian fresco painter born in Bologna, was commissioned to produce illusionistic quadratura painting in the Marble Hall. at the seaside with Courbet 🌊The current exhibition at the @leopold_museum in Vienna about the life and work of french artist Gustave Courbet features many paintings with nature themes like the seaside. Loved the atmosphere! The exhibition shows every side of his art. I mostly knew his portraits but he created so much more. Very well made exhibition!#arthistory #vienna #museum by @arts.e.facts
