The MIT Arts Startup Incubator just opened with a night at the Cantab Lounge on opportunities for entrepreneurs in the music industry.

Anj Fayemi ‘20, an Incubator alum and co-founder of the AI music marketing platform Rivet, joined Liza Levy, president of the Salt Lick Incubator, to talk through the obstacles working musicians face for a sustainable career, and what each of their companies is doing about it. Grammy-nominated roots musician Farayi performed a short set.

Applications for this year’s Incubator are open through October 29.  Participating teams with arts and culture ideas in any creative industry get expert guidance and resources to build their ventures, and finalists pitch in the spring for a $15,000 prize.

For the past six weeks, MIT has been the place I call home. Huge thanks to the Department of Art, Culture and Technology (ACT) for housing me as a Visiting Postdoc, and to my great hosts Gediminas Urbonas and Tobias Putrih.

Thanks to Zach Lieberman for letting me join your Future Sketches coding and drawing class at MIT Media Lab, to Svetlana Boriskina for opening the doors to your META lab and letting me weave with your incredible fibers, and to Jordan Cox and Connor Moorman from MIT.nano for guiding my X-ray studies and scans of orchids and silver crystals—opening portals to entirely new dimensions.

It’s been an incredible journey through cleanrooms and laboratories, museums and studios. Thanks to everyone I met on the way. May our paths cross again soon!

As part of the inaugural MIT Future Fest (@mitfuturefest), Kahlil Joseph and the “BLKNWS” team have created a new edition of “BLKNWS®,” featuring conversations with members of the MIT community filmed on campus in August 2026.

Bringing together scholars, scientists, artists, and thinkers from across the Institute, Joseph’s MIT Edition asks what it means to imagine the future from one of the world’s most consequential research communities, and what the intersection of Black intellectual life, technology, and cultural imagination looks like when given a platform at MIT.

Learn more on our website and visit the List Center atrium through Sunday, October 4, 2026 to view the work in person.

Excited to be speaking this Saturday at MIT Future Fest @mitfuturefest

The Body Reimagined: When Anatomy Becomes a Site of Design

Part of a new five-day festival exploring the intersections of design, science, and technology — and the next era of human understanding.

A question at the center of my work: what happens when embodiment itself becomes a site of design?

I’ll be in conversation with Hugh Herr @hugh.herr Professor at the MIT Media Lab, moderated by Paola Antonelli @paolantonelli Senior Curator of Architecture & Design and Director of R&D at MoMA.

From bionics and neural interfaces to new morphologies, embodied architectures, and nonhuman forms of embodiment.

The conversation is part of the public opening of MIT’s new Metropolitan Warehouse and of MIT Future Fest, led by the MIT Museum @mitmuseum in collaboration with MIT Technology Review @technologyreview and MIT Morningside Academy for Design @mitdesignacademy .

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, @jcrudess will perform two concerts at MIT’s Thomas Tull Concert Hall during the inaugural @mitfuturefest alongside musical guests and jam_bot, an AI model developed with Rudess and trained on his playing.

At the heart of the concert is a simple idea: this technology is not here to replace musicians, but to expand their creative possibilities and inspire new ways of making music.
