🇺🇸 I’m Denise Costa: a Brazilian visual artist with Portuguese roots, illustrator, curious soul, and maker of things.

I mix everything together. I’m a little bit of this, a little bit of that. I’m not just one thing and, most likely, I never will be.
Yes, I have plenty of flaws.

I hold on to a healthy dose of stubbornness when it comes to fitting into the little boxes people like to invent.

I believe in a colorful world, in the beauty of what is different, in the strength of minorities, in the boldness of poetry, in the power of therapy, in everything made by hand, and that a good sense of humor is revolutionary.

If you’d like to stay, you’re welcome here. Grab a coffee, a beer, a glass of wine… whatever…

Cheers! 🥂

Sim, tenho muitos defeitos.

Nature Collection Spring - Summer 2025 by @artstudiodenisecosta

⭐️My illustration series, The Garden Within, is coming soon.

There are so many places in what we create.

Portuguese tiles and ceramics, Italian food and tablecloths, Brazilian flowers and clay, Moroccan textures… I gather what I see, what moves me, and what stays with me.

Inside me, these influences mix. On paper, they become vases, flowers, and leaves, with vibrant colors, free-flowing lines, and the spontaneity of childhood.

Little by little, I’ll share what’s blooming here.

On display December 1–31 at Legal Grounds Café, Elsmere, Wilmington, Delaware.

Azulejos e cerâmicas portuguesas, a culinária e as toalhas italianas, flores e barro brasileiro, texturas marroquinas…

🇺🇸Flowers, leaves, and a hammer.
And with every tap, a little surprise!
This technique is called Hapa Zome, also known as flower pounding. It transfers the natural colors and shapes of plants onto paper.
