Spent time under Jacob Hashimoto’s Giant Arc at SFMOMA today . Nearly 75,000 kites, hand-built from bamboo and Japanese paper, filling floor to ceiling.
What stayed with me is how the piece works against scale. A kite is a small, almost domestic object. Multiplied by 75,000, it stops reading as kites at all, it becomes something closer to weather, or a drawing you can walk through.
